Which Fighter had the best start in terms of comp?

Kosta Tszyu had a heck of a start to his career. Vargas also faced some really good fighters very early in his career. In the past decade, Gamboa has probably faced as tough of a lineup as anyone.

Looking only at the first five fights, it's hard to top Veeraphol Sahaprom.

 

Alexander Povetkin has fought some good figthers already: Richard Bango, Friday Ahunanya, Livin Catillo, Larry Donald, Chris Byrd, Eddie Chambers.

Agreed. The thread-starter needs to clarify which question he is asking between:

Do you mean fought the best competition early on?

and

Or were brought along at exactly the right rate?

As these questions would have different answers.

My answer to the 1st question would be Evander Holyfield, my answer to the 2nd question would be Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both excellent beginnings to excellent careers, but Holyfield took a huge risk taking on Qawi so early, and Mayweather steadily upped the quality of opposition before fighting Corrales at the right time.

 

Nevermind... I see why the previous posters were confused about his intentions. His topic asks a different question than his post...

Oscar is a valid answer here IMO, beating Ruelas and Hernandez so early and so convincingly was special.

 

Cool, I say Mayweather then. He fought Genaro Hernandez for a world title after Hernandez had already been dominated by De La Hoya, took on and beat the overrated Angel Manfredy, and these were both low risk-big reward IMO. He then spent a bit more time learning his trade before stepping up the level of opposition v Corrales, and this decision was inspired, as Mayweather gave a career-best performance and established himself as a top top quality performer. Perfectly managed and executed start.

 

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Antonio Tarver. The guy has only 31 fights at the moment and has already faced everybody worth a mention.

 

I would say Floyd Mayweather Jr. Michael Moorer, Roy Jones Jr. and Evander Holyfield all had great starts and were brought along at a good pace. Not too slow not too fast and their managements knew how good they were and when to put them into the spotlight. All 4 of these guys took very moderate steps up through the first few years of their careers but definitaly didnt waste anytime.
