Mercer (Version '08/'09) would be a good K.O. for Haye.
(I doubt they throw him in there with him tho)

Mercer is only for the money, no doubt about it. He instantly laid against Briggs from one of the weakest punches ever thrown that I've seen.

He is a waste of time, nobody should pay him any attention.

The only old dude with a monster chin who should challenge David Haye is Oliver McCAll. Mercer is too prone to quit these days and old Oliver also still has the power to seriously test Haye.

  4. Mercer in his prime would have beat Haye's ass:lol: now at 47 he's probaly not going to get licensed:patsch why would Haye fight him anyway he has not a damn thing to gain???

I would rather see Haye fight, Arreola, or Povektian "spelling" to see if he can fight as good as he can run his piehole..

I agree with the McCall suggestion!

That would be a potentially nasty fight for Haye. Far too high risk to fight McCall. Haye would really have to pace himself to fight McCall. I just don't think he could get a quick stoppage over even the aged Atomic Bull.

I truly hope they don't consider facing Mercer for even 1 second.

    Team Haye should pick:

    • Golota
    • Ruiz*
    • Liakhovich
    • Meehan
    • Virchis
    • Chambers

I think these are "reasonably safe" fights if Haye is half as good as he thinks he is (perhaps, with the exception of Golota).

A nervous Golota is tailor made for Haye (if he has fast, hammer like punches). If his power isn't what it's cracked up to be, Golota will educate Haye. Hey, Golota often finds a way to lose even when he's winning an important bout -- that's a pretty good fallback!

mercer should be in a rocking chair at this point. the mercer of 13 years ago does the same to haye as he did to morrison.

Props to Mercer for his last win, but he should retire now with that last good win under his belt.

Mercer would have had a shot at beating Haye even in 2005 (remember Haye got knocked out by a 41year old), when he gave Shannon Briggs all he could handle and got knocked out with an illegal rabbit punch combination (!) to the side of his head while being held, but he's probably just too old and slow now for Haye, plus maybe his chin isn't what it once was anymore...

yep, Oli McCall would be a stiff test for Haye. McCall has the best chin in boxing and great punching power, he's slow these days but he still would test Hayes chin, plus Haye would have to fight for the whole 12 rds if he wants to win coz his power can't bail him out against McCall, so we'd also see how his stamina and boxing skills are at HW.

Another 'old dude with a monster chin' who should fight Haye is James Toney, but we all know that Haye wants no part of him...

it didn't look like a legit KO to me, Briggs held him and hit him with two rabbit punches

Ridiculous. Mercer is completely out of shape and represents little to no danger/challenge for David... I understand Ray is trying to make some money out of his past and "fame" at this stage but he should acknowledge what his loss to Wladimir represented and represents - Mercer will mean nothing positive to Haye - if Haye knocks him out fast, still there would be doubts and if Haye struggles with him, then he may suffer since people may call out what may be his bluff... Mercer is done with boxing.

Coming to think about it, it would be funny as hell if the fight happened and grandpa Mercer knocked Haye out cold... I can see a huffing n' puffing Mercer standing on the ring-post with a fat belly shouting 'Merciless... huff, huff... yeah, Merciless baby!'

    Only dreaming tho...
