I do understand what your saying but I still cant call him a completely shot player. I see the Jordan thing I remember him in 01-03 he lost a bit of his pure athletic ability then lead him to do insane things in his prime but he was still a very good player. RJJ doesnt have the bounce in his step or the stamina he used to by any means but he still has some things other fighters would kill for. Roy is still a fine fighter of course yeah hes a shell of his former shelf but just because hes lost a step doesnt make him shot. He IMO has the style to beat Calzaghe in the center of the ring and will win this fight as long as he can keep it there the majority of the time. When Roy lets his hands go EVERYONE goes in a shell even Glen Johnson did when Roy opened up they go in that shell and dont know what to do because of Roys combo of speed and power and the judges like that. Then they will also like Roys harder, cleaner and louder shots. Roys still sound like gun shots when they land where Joe slaps. Roy has a good chance to win this.

No I think Trinidad is pretty bad. The problem is he cant make those lower weights he will be at 168 minimum and he cant compete with those guys. If he could fight at 154 then that would be different but being old and washed up and a few divisions up of his best fighting weight, he doesnt have a chance against those guys at 168-175

Jones Jr is my fav fighter of all time.... My best friend is from Pensacola and has met him on serveral occasions.

In my opinion, Roy might still have what it takes to beat Calzaghe....
My only concern, is Joe moving Roy too much across the ring, like he did Hopkins.

Jones doesn't have the legs he once did, but he still has a chance
Roy has NEVER had a glass chin, and NEVER will....

Why all the Jones critics think he has or had a glass chin, makes no sense to me, I dont care what Chico ***afora says!:lol::lol::lol:

During the fight i wondered why Jones never threw many left hooks and it wasnt until after watching an interview with him i knew why.

He said he tore a muscle and would have thrown much more.

    Jones still looked bad imo.

I would love to see Roy Jones win this fight i just don't see it unless its a counterpunch that Calzaghe can't get up from.

though there is merit to some of what you and the other guy who competely writes off jones said, his wins haven't exactly been against **** competition. yes henshaw, prince, and older out of his weight class trinidad aren't wins against elite competition, they aren't bums either. this is not shannon briggs getting a title shot off of d and c level comp, those guys are decent probably b level each. be somewhat objective if your gonna say other posters are in a 'dreamworld.'

Hopkins has better boxing skills than Jones, that is the difference. In his prime Roy was all about reflexes, handseed, and athleticism.

Now, he is all about a lack of reflexes, stamina, and legs.

He is shot and has no chance vs Calzaghe.

Wow a very simple and narrowminded assessment, good job:good

The fact is is that Jones is a much tougher fight for Joe than Hopkins was. Jones was and always will be more skilled than both Hopkins or Calzaghe, this is nothing more than a widely understood and well know fact....Hopkins knows he doesnt have the skill or ability he once had, hence the adoption of dirty tactics(clinching, leading with his head, etc.) A Roy Jones Jr that is even slightly slower than a prime version is still much quicker than Joe or Hopkins respectively.

Another fact: Joe fundamentally does most things wrong in the ring, this is another historical universal that isnt debated by his true fans let alone just fans in general...Joe is extremely intelligent which is partly why he's built the outstanding record that he has, also Joe applies relentless and effective pressure that has worked wonders for him up until now.....

Personally I'm a fan of both fighters and would be content despite who the victor is.....I believe it will be Jones. One things for sure, this will be an extremely entertaining and competitive fight

There are too many dreamers on here to actually choose one to respond to directly.

I hope I don't offend anyone too much as that is not my intention, but I have to say that I do believe that anyone who thinks Roy Jones Jr is not SHOT and has ANY chance at all against Calzaghe, or disagrees that both him and Trinidad looked TERRIBLE in a terrible fight, knows very very little about boxing.

I adore RJJ, he is definitely 1 of my top 5 personal favourite fighters of all-time and I have him top 20 pound-for-pound of all-time. The RJJ of 1993-2003 would have embarrassed Joe Calzaghe on any night of Calzaghe's career IMO.

But the guy is SHOT to pieces and I just cannot understand HOW anyone can disagree with that. And I do not mean just by his own standards, I mean SHOT in the purest sense of the word.

A fighter who was world-class and is now no longer capable of functioning at world-class level at all, and can now only fight non top 10 ranked fighters and participate in utterly ridiculous fights like a training bout v a rusty welterweight who was even MORE shot than him!! (sorry Tito! but the truth hurts. Please retire) - sorry, but to me this is the dictionary definition of 'shot'. A fighter who would now lose to guys he would have annihilated in his prime and can't compete at world level anymore.

For those of you who still blindly disagree: the last time RJJ fought world-class opposition was 2004-5. He got knocked cold twice and beaten convincingly on points, 3 bad defeats. He has had a further 3-4 years to decline since then, which at his age means he is getting worse, not better. That much should be obvious.

The way RJJ fans are on here talking up his chances actually offends me. It is your obtuse nature and blind faith that has legitimized this contest when the harsh truth is that Calzaghe has taken it on for some easy cash. He knows very well that RJJ is shot (IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME READ HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY WRITTEN IN 2007, HE ACTUALLY SAYS THAT TARVER & JOHNSON ARE NO GOOD BECAUSE THEY ONLY BEAT A SHOT ROY JONES!) and is taking this fight to make himself appear as some sort of Legend Killer, when RJJ's legend DIED 4 years ago and is now firmly in the past (if only we would let it).

If all his irrational and illogical fans had cared enough about him to stop building up this joke of a fight, maybe we would have been spared the sight of the greatest fighter of our era being stopped in a swarm of slaps by a far less talented and far more mercenary opponent.

I can't even be bothered debating this any further, but I will bet anyone anything that Calzaghe will win the fight easily. I say TKO stoppage around the mid-late rounds, but any earlier wouldn't surprise me. Tragic.

PS: Please don't get me wrong here guys, I would LOVE a Jones win more than anything else in the world, it would be the no.1 happiest moment in my life as a boxing fan! And I will be praying all through the fight that RJJ can land a right that will turn it his way. BUT, I cannot let my heart rule my head, that would be wrong. I know that what I want to happen WILL NOT happen.

Just like with many Tyson fans near the end of his career, many Jones fans seem to be deluding themselves in to believing Roy still has what it takes.

Against Trinidad he showed he still has fast hands but looked slower than the version of Jones that fought Tarver and Johnson. His foot work was poor, he actually plodded around the ring. When he had Trinidad hurt he didn't have the energy to raise his workrate and take him out. Jones is shot and while he looked OK against Hanshaw and Trinidad if he had been in with a top contender he would have either looked terrible or been beaten.

Jones doesn't even have a punchers chance against Calzaghe, who chin is granite. Yes he was dropped by Hopkins by a sneaky right hand but was never hurt. If he can't KO Trinidad he doesn't have a chance of stopping Calzaghe.

This is going to be a terribly onesided fight. While Calzaghe is clearly past his best he is the first genuine world class light heavyweight Jones has fought since Tarver. I wouldn't be at all suprised to see Jones getting counted out again.

Jones looked good despite being injured ... he looked sharp throwing that right hand --

Trinidad boxed beautifully but did at times look rusty ... i'm sure if there was some hype built up around that fight and Tito got the chance to get some fine tuning ... Tito's performance wouldve been better.

If it weren't for the two knock downs ... the scoring margin wouldve been closer.

I ca not agree with you. Jones fought a good fight, he showed that he still had exceptional speed and nice combinations. I also thought that Trinidad put on a nice showing especially after such a long layoff. Maybe Calzaghe will beat him but it won't be easy.

    Hard to argue with this.

I wonder if those who believe RJJ can beat Calzaghe think:

    - that Morales could come back and beat Pacquiao in a 4th fight?
    - that Barrera could beat Marquez in a rematch?
    - that De La Hoya could beat Margarito just now?
    - that Holyfield could beat David Haye?
    - that James Toney will win the world heavyweight title soon?
    - that Ricardo Mayorga will beat Mosley and then go after a world title?
    - that Tito Trinidad could boil down to 160 or 154 and be a force again?
    - that Fernando Vargas could come back and beat Pavlik or Abraham?
    - that Tyson could KO 1 of the Klitschkos if they beat Povetkin/Peter?
    - that Jeff Fenech is on the way back to glory after his win over Azumah Nelson??

I would be interested to hear your responses on each suggestion.
