I liked Vargas a lot, but he certainly did not attain All time great legendary status. If Ortiz proves to be tough, fearless, fights everybody, and beats most of the contenders in his division , then he'll proved he is just as good as Vargas. If he wins the big ones, like Vargas didn't , then he'll be better.

its definitely possible. hopefully he doesnt rely on his power too much if/when he starts fighting the elite. hes yet to truly be tested but from what ive seen he has a ton of potential and i expect him to do very well.

ortiz is a good solid prospect but other then his power is nothing special VArgas had an escence to him and foguth whith abilty and showed alot of promise which is why his promters put him in with the juggernauts of the sport. he also was able to beat top 10 fighter in his weight class with in 14 fights.

SOMETIMES PEOPLE forget just how good Vargas was at such a young age. As long as Victor isn't rushed and is built slowly he could become a star in the same mold as a Vargas. Victor is just 21 so I hope they take there time with him

Victor is very good, but at this stage he isn't as good as Fernando was. It's possible that at 25 or 30 he will be in a better position, of course. Right now Victor needs to take a page from Fernando's book and try and fight even more measured, more disciplined than he has been. He has a slight tendency to get wild and waste shots. His next few fights will be extremely important. Ortiz needs rounds right now.

Yep, that and they really just haven't seen the matches and have no idea what they're talking about. During fights 10-20 Vargas went through a "pagoda" of challenges that would have impresssed Bruce Lee's character in Game Of Death. He devastatingly beat challengers that would have given virtually all the other stars and superstars of any era and any weight class a much harder time - Vargas made extreme adversity look easy.

He was like 17 and 0 with 17 knockouts, and the competition was pretty hairy at different points all things considered, he had to earn some of those. The sequence of punches he knocked Marquez out with was UNREAL. Nobody thought he would get a KO at that point late in the fight, even the HBO team was commenting how his KO streak was about to end as Vargas opened up.

Then he fought Winky - and beat Winky BTW - Vargas did win that fight (and I'll be happy to debate and review with anyone who is interested), and of course Ike Quartey, convincingly. Ect, ect.

Ortiz will have a tough time surpassing Vargas, not only in results but against who,Vargas fought the best from Trinidad to Mosley, who is Victor gonna fight at 140 to make him a legend?Hatton?Malignaggi? The only guy who can make a name for himself if he beats hi is Timothy Brdley if he turns out to be world class. In 3 years Ortiz vs Bradley should be a great fight
