Berbick was very impressive, but the one that really got my attention was the 30 second blowout of Marvis Frazier.

Many of Tyson's early opponents were funny looking actually. Tyson looked awesome against Biggs, unbeaten Olympic Champion who he simply took apart.

 

Tyson didn't fight a "Live" body until he fought James Tillis and Jesse Ferguson in 1986..... FORGET all of Tyson's early / quick KO's... The fight with Trevor Berbick was the REAL Mike Tyson kickin' ass..... Michael Spinks? He was fodder.....

Looked more to me like Rooney got fixated on making Tyson work the jab all the time, as if to prove a point or something...not wise against a better jabber who quickly learned how to start deflecting Mike's jabs and tying him up on the inside. I thought Thomas was good for a round or even possibly two at the outside in that fight due to Mike's jab-heavy (for him) attack.

It wasn't really until Rooney just finally said to forget about the jabbing and advised Mike to just bully him that things moved to a finish. It was Tyson's lunging left hook that started the end.

 

Performance wise: I've always been mightily impressed by his breaking down of Biggs. Economically devestating and always in control of the fight, he could've ended it at any time from about the 3rd or 4th round onwards, but kept pounding away at Biggs midrift till he succumed- then devestatingly put him away for the stopage. Decisive but in a controlled, not wreckless fashion.

Win wise: Berbick and Thomas.

 

Berbick i think was his most awe-inspiring performance, given that it was a title fight and his age. berbick was game too, unlike most of tysons early victims he didnt actually seem terified of tyson, there was just nothing he could do. a ruthless performance.

 

Alex Stewart and Bruno II.

We can't not mention the victory over Alex Stewart. You have to realise, Stewart was no mug, not be any means. Alex gave Holyfield all he could handle in 1989. At the time of the Tyson fight, Stewart's only loss was against Holyfield.

Regardless of whether Alex was too apprehensive or not is beside the point. Tyson took care of Stewart in impressive. When you watch Stewart's losing effort against Holyfield, Tyson's victory is an impressive one indeed.

Watching Tyson-Stewart, Mike was in great shape & once he knew he the chance to end the fight quickly, he took care of business. Tyson's very calculated in that fight.

Apart from the Stewart victory, other performances are Ribalta, Berbick, Biggs, Holmes, Bruno 2.

However, one of my favourite Tyson performances was against Alfonso Ratliff. Ok, so Ratliff was outweighed by the best of a stone, but Tyson got to him real quick. The first knockdown is an unusual one because its like a left jab/left hook Tyson delivers & its right on the button.

The referee was generous to Ratliff in letting him fight on after the first knockdown because essentially, the fight was over!

 

The fight with Pinklon was punch perfect, but the way he outgunned and psyched out Tyrell Biggs in AC was just something of beauty....
