Lewis dominated him as a teenager and as an adult.

Lewis was all wrong stylistically for Tyson. Any version used, that doesn't change that key fact.

Thats funny, I heard quite the opposite. Tyson got the better of Lewis, while Lewis began showing signs of improvement towards the end. At any rate, Lewis would later say those sparring lessons turned out to be the most valuable boxing lessons he ever got.:yep

It goes on to prove that although Lewis was older, Tyson matured in the ring at a much younger age.

Tyson takes Lewis out early. If ordinary fighters like McCall and Rahman could stop Lewis, a prime Tyson would annihilate him.

I would say Tyson. I saw him in his Prime and I have yet to see such a formidable fighter. Lewis is a bad matchup for him stylistically. But Tyson Prime had every talent in the book and a great cornerman in Rooney. He was an animal set to seek and destroy. He would beat Lewis.

Also, I would like to note that Lewis has an excellent chin, and that his two losses to McCall and Rahman he avenged. Against McCall he clearly protested the stoppage, and the Rahman right hand that landed was perfectly placed at a perfect angle, and anyone would have been hurt by it. right on the side of the chin at the end of the punch at an upward angle and it was a full power straight right. Lewis took many punches in his career against some very powerful guys. He had a chin

I was just reminiscing about Tyson's KO of Larry Holmes in 1988 - that was awesome. Holmes was only 38 at the time, and nobody else KO'ed Holmes in his entire career.

Holmes beat Mercer and went the distance with Holyfield at age 42 years old and with Oliver Mccall at 45. Hell, Holmes even went the distance with Butterbean at age 52 :nut

Prime Tyson was totally destructive and relentless. Lewis was 'the pugilist specialist' and virtually impossible to beat when fully focused.

However, one can never erase the memories of Lewis' KOs by Mccall and Rahman. And his struggles with Mercer and Bruno - guys who showed no fear, took the fight to Lewis and pressured him.

You have to give prime Tyson a chance of KOing prime Lewis.

If Lewis gets past the first 5 rounds he'd probably have won.

The fight could never have happened though as Tyson peaked in 1988 and Lewis closer to 1998.

    Are you silly?

A prime Tyson finishes off everyone put in front of him, Lennox Lewis included.

I think it's a surprisingly even fight. I say surprisingly because I think Tyson head to head, beats 95% of all heavyweights.

Something McGrain said earlier bears reiterating. The uppercut. Tyson's lack of height makes him a perfect target for a tall guy to land a big uppercut, and Lewis had a massive uppercut.
Tucker got Tyson's attention with the uppercut in the first, and Douglas' uppercut was the punch that pretty much ended Irom Mike in their fight. It really will be a key weapon for Lewis here, and Tyson will have to be very wary of it.

Lewis has size and a lot of strength too, and is tactically very astute. Plus, he could be quite dirty in there, and if Tyson starts with the low blows and elbows, Lewis could dish out the same.

Really, I think this is a very tough fight to call. Normally I'd favour the taller, heavier guy outright, but Tyson was a phenom when at his best with a quite stupendous blend of power, speed and reflexes. His footwork was quite brilliant at times and his finishing skills are amongst the best in history.

I'd honestly call this a 50/50. I hate to be a fence sitter here, but they're that close in my opinion.

    Lewis KO 7.

Lewis was a class act, great boxing brain, owned the ring, longer reach, better stamina, he would have made Tyson look foolish.

Lets not forget Lewis-tyson was suupposed to happen in 96 :think Which would of been a much better fight, but lewis had to chase mike to the courts to get him to honour his agreement to fight him.

What happened again was Tyson did a Bowe esq move and relinquished his wbc belt he won from Bruno rather then fight Lewis, yet he never gets any stick for it.

    Taken from hbo boxing.com

On May 10, 1996, Lewis outboxed and outpunched Mercer in front of 16,000 fans at Madison Square Garden to win a unanimous decision (W 10). His punishing left jab and lethal right hand stymied the powerful Mercer, and announced to boxing insiders and fans alike that he was ready to regain his heavyweight belt.

While Lewis was defeating Fortune, Morrison and Mercer, his management team was offering Tyson $45 million to defend the WBC title against Lewis. Tyson refused. In response to a court order demanding that he defend his crown against Lewis, Tyson surrendered the title, providing Lewis with the opportunity to battle his nemesis Oliver McCall for the vacant crown.

No one ever wanted to really fight Lennox Lewis and there is a good reason for that, Lewis would of fought Holyfield, tyson or bowe at the drop of a hat anytime.

Shame those guys didn't have the brass ones to fight him when they should of, this in itself tells a story of who the fighters themselves think would of won :yep

Prime 4 prime Lewis wins off the jab for me tyson had a good chin, if in 96 when it should of happened Lewis by tko 10 :good

    TRUEBELIEVER66.

How was Tyson way past his prime v Douglas?

    Mike was 23 years old.

He had not had any wars what so ever.

He won the title at 20, got KO'd at 23.

How is that past his prime?

What was his toughest fight before Douglas? Bruno? Who lost every round?

He didn't train hard for Douglas that is clear, but that doesn't mean he was past his prime.

It is not as if anyone thought that before the fight against a 42-1 outsider. :-((

The excuses people make for Mike are poor. No other fight could get away with the excuses the Fanboys make for Mike. NO WAY.
