JM Marquez v J Diaz: It looks likely. Who will win?

I read this on the Setanta website today:

Richard Schaefer told setantasports.com that he believes Juan Diaz and Juan Manuel Marquez will fight in early 2009.
The two Golden Boy fighters have both enjoyed impressive victories this month.
Diaz beat Michael Katsidis on September 6 in his comeback bout after losing his WBA/IBF/WBO lightweight titles to Nate Campbell in March, while Marquez beat Joel Casamayor to claim the Ring Magazine and linear lightweight crown.
"After Marquez knocked out Casamayor and Juan Diaz had a thrilling victory over Michael Katsidis both the guys staked their claim to be the best lightweight in the world," Schaefer told setantasports.com.
"I think a showdown between these two exciting lightweights is certainly a fight we will be working on for the early part of next year."

I think it would be a great fight, but I'd strongly fancy Marquez to win. Like Bernard Hopkins, he seems to be one of that rare breed of fighter who peaks in his mid-30s. I don't think anyone at lightweight could beat him just now, except maybe Pacquiao. And I include Campbell and Guzman in that. He really is at the peak of his powers just now judging by his last two performances, and is just a brilliant brilliant fighter.

I say Marquez by wide UD.

    Thoughts/opinions?

If Marquez doesn't grow old over night he should win a decision

Seriously should be a very closely fought match.

JMM should win but it wont be as easy no way.

I go with Juan Diaz. Diaz has speed as well and what is more, punches in bunches. Except for his last two fights, he seemed unstoppable going forward. Against Campbell and Katsidis he was not this unstoppable force, probably because Campbell is just a hard man. I think Katsidis and Freitas have approximately equivalent punching power it's just that Freitas fought Diaz when he no longer had the desire for brutal wars circa Freitas-Barrios.

I just have some doubts whether Marquez has what it takes to send Diaz backwards like what Campbell did, and what Katsidis did (make Diaz box more).

JMM is a coward for fighting Diaz instead of facing Nate. This is what is wrong with boxing. GoldenBoy is stopping unification. JMM should be fighting Nate, with Juan MAYBE getting a shot at the winner if he accomplished enough.

Considering people consider the ring champ to be the true champ in the division, there is definately something wrong with it. What if Diaz wins? Could anyone really call him the top man in the division?
