Yes he was. From memory Floyd lost the first 5 rounds (maybe it was 4) and he did cop some bigish punches, one even made his glove hit the canvas which the ref didn't pick up on. From memory the second half of the fight was very dominant for Floyd but for the first third or so Zab was taking it comfortably. Credit to Mayweather for coming back but it just shows that if Judah wasn't such a mental man-child he would have all the tools to beat Floyd, and beat him at this own game for that matter.

 

I allways admired Floyds skills, not his speed, not his defense, but his ability to adept in those 12 rounds. Maby it has alot to do with Roger but it seems that Floyd has A-Z plans for all of his fights, he may have hard time against pressure fighters (becouse he lacks that power to earn respect) but hes definetly one of the best fighters of last decade.:good

 

Yes but a combination of talent and learned skill is surpreme. I think you're also devaluing the mental side of boxing. IMO Floyd is an example of a real combination raw physical talent, sublime skills, mental fortitude and a brilliant boxing brain.

 

Yeah I agree with what you're saying. However, I'm not that sure that Floyd does have that much trouble with pressure fighters. He did in the first Castillo fight but IMO that was all the schooling on that style he required. Corrales, De La Hoya, Hatton to name just a few have tried the pressure tactic to no avail. As a strategy it certainly makes it easier not to get beaten badly by floyd because it cramps him up and doesn't allow him to get too many big clean punches away, but at the same time he doesn't really get hit much either so I don't think it's the best way to win. I guess it depends on what your options are based on your skills. I think the best way to beat floyd would be to be agressive but to out-slick him ala Judah in the first few rounds. Unfortunately there aren't many (any) fighters with skills to match Floyd. If only Sweetpea was around. If a fighter is going to go with the pressure strategy vs Floyd it has to be backed up by some silky boxing skills, not the indiscriminate flailing that Oscar and Hatton employed. Thats why I think Cotto might do pretty well against Floyd.

 

You sound like a broken record. I agree that Floyd is superbly versed in boxing skills but without the raw athletic talent to employ those skills effectively he wouldn't have been at that level. I'm sorry but to be as good as Floyd, and to be a world class boxer in general for that matter, you have to have all the elements, not just learned skills.

I'm not saying exceptional stength will make you the p4p no. 1, in fact I'm saying the opposite.

Not everyone can make those learned skills as effective as Floyd. Teach them to a chubby girl from birth and I can guarantee she would get ****ed up inside a round by even a crude C level brawler.

 

People are not robots. They are not programed like computers. There are other factors involved. You are deluded if you think we could make as many Floyd clones as we wanted if only we teach them.
