Weakest Title Reign- Ottke Or Hopkins

Hopkins has Trinidad, the clearly top man available for Hopkins (Ottke never fought his best available opponent), Keith Holmes - who easily beat Richie Woodhall (a Calzaghe victim as well), Antwun Echols - who blew out Charles Brewer in 3 rounds (also an opponent for Ottke and Calzaghe), and every middleweight that mattered in a 10 year stretch.

Ottke's reign is a joke, and Hopkins' reign was better than any of the era.

BTW, Calzaghe's reign is barely better than Ottke's.

 

I've noticed. I'm American but I can't help but think that Frank Warren is a big part of the problem. I just get sick of guys like Ottke and Sturm that sit on there bs titles, refuse to fight outside of Europe and never unify. They should make a unification tournament mandatory every four years IMO. But good point. The promoters might be more to blame than the fighters themselves.

Big names doesn't necessary equals quality of the same caliber of hype.

Ottke, Hopkins generally dominated his opposition while Ottke was winning close debateable fights part of the time in his defenses.
