You should have seen Silva's 2nd boxing fight 3 years ago. He won it in the 2nd round but the guy was an absolute can and everything about Silva was awkward. His footwork, jabs, combinations and for facing such a mediocre opponent he even got tagged a few times. Him wanting to fight RJJ was nothing more than a publicity stunt. He knew Dana would not allow that fight and he knows he would absolutely get splattered by RJJ if that fight were to materialize. BUT, Silva is not really overrated. Hes not as good of a striker as people are making him out to be but hes beaten everybody that was put in front of him. I still think the middleweight division is probably the worst in the UFC in terms of talent. They are lucky they have Silva because nobody is marketable in that division.
Yeah I agree. I got a few freakshow fights to watch in Couture/Lesnar and Pacquaio/DLH. But I am actually excited for RJJ/Calzaghe. That fight is going to be competitive.
So one fight, four years ago, that he won easily, shows his striking isn't all that? Not to mention he's the only person I can think of outstriking Murray, who knocked out Pele. Nobody has used striking as succesfully in high level fights as Anderson Silva in MMA history. There may be a handful of fighters with better stand up in some sort of removed from reality hypothetical vaccum, but nobody is going to beat him with striking in an MMA fight, because the few that may be better are such worse fighters overall they wouldn't stand much of a chance.
The Werdum matchup is very strange. He beats Gonzaga and Vera then they match him up against someone who is going to make their UFC debut :huh. Looking forward to the other fights though. Leites vs Reljic should be good, the winner could be a possible future opponent for Silva. I actually think Cote will do better then what a lot of people think, but I still think Silva will win. This card is lacking another big name for it to be a PPV, so I understand people having doubts about purchasing it.
Thats because the UFC or MMA has no great strikers, stand up fighters,GSP is good,BJ Penn they are all good but they are nothing special at all Anderson is nothing special, fair enough tho......... i admit Anderson Silva is the best in the UFC right now
its the same Silva Jimmie Its just Silva looks sensational in the UFC,this has got people carried away
Iv only seen one of Silva`s boxing matches. He fought some guy that looked at least 2 divisions smaller than him. It was quite crude and not much to write home about and Silva won via KO. Either way its immaterial. In MMA Silva IS a world class striker. I dont see what he`s boxing credentials has to do with this as if he was a boxer he wouldnt even be a journeyman. There two diffrent sports.
Scarlaruntings look at it on a scientific level! MMA is evolving........... jujitsu and wrestling DOMINATED in the early UFCs but both these arts are now being found out, take down defense is now wide spread in MMA Anderson Silva a world class UFC fighter, a good striker,it is a new wave IMO,MMA will be dominated by strikers with take down defense, only the so called hard man Brock steroid Lesnar can carry the flag of wrestling in the UFC/MMA The UFC is a wrestling ORG if you ask me and Silva has thrown a big spanner in the works so i respect Silva for that but i know Anderson is nothing special in stand up war
Not in the UFC, the world. Nobody is going to succesfully beat him in a fight with striking, because those capable of doing it are so woefully inadequate in every other aspect of their game that they would be dominated and beaten easily.
Agreed. You can always watch the replay of Anderson Silva's sixty second beat down of Patrick Cote on Youtube the next day.
Even if it is it means very little to me considering it was in like 1998 before Silva even started MMA.
