Paul has always been known more as an acculmulation puncher type of guy, but in his last two fights he has blown away two normally durable fighters in the first round. Paul is still a very young guy, and he seems to be maturing and getting better right before our eyes. The way he blew that guy away last night was very, very impressive. The guys not a world beater but he was known for his toughness an it was at MIDDLEWEIGHT, so I give him alot of credit for the KO. I thought the fight would go 10 but boy was I wrong. If Margarito was avoiding him before than now he must be completely written off as a possible opponent. Can you remember any guy in recent history that became a KO artist late well into his career like Paul seems to have done? Like a one or two punch KO type of guy? Paul "the punisher" Williams is nothing to f*ck with !
There's a reason Williams vs Margarito II was called the best Welterweight fight right now and it's pretty damn obvious after last night.
No. However, Hearns was not known as a puncher in the amateurs. Once he turned pro, Steward had him sitting on his punches which turned him into a destructive power puncher. Williams sure as hell isn't Tommy Hearns. But he could definately become a power puncher if he continues to sit on his punches.
the perfect scenario would be: cotto v berto - cotto win margarito v clottey - unification victory for marg, but tough cotto v margarito 2 - could go either way, marg for me winner of this faces williams
I was at that fight yesterday and they started booing him and saying fight Margarito. I told one guy they did fight and paul won he said "I thought that was paul's only loss". I believe they dont have to ever fight again, but should and one should be pushing for it harder since he lost.
So was Paul trying out the Middleweight to see if he's comfortable enough for it? Is he going back down to 147? We know Paul isnt eaxctly invincible after he poor performance with quintana, so thsi may give hope to the other 147 pounders, but thats a big IF! Paul is a well equipped boxer and can bang..beware!!
Paul's stated plan is to go back to 147. I believe he has a mandatory due. he's fought at middle before, so it appears he was just seeing if he can still pull it off since there are big money opponents at 154 and 160. Nice avatar and user name. Jim Kelly was the man. I've got Black Belt Jones somewhere on VHS. :good
Not a typical KO artist in the Hearns or Jackson mould, but still, a hard puncher nevertheless, though I wouldn't expect him winning like he did on Thursday against Pavlik or Abraham if ever those fights came off in the future.
Golden Johnson > Andy Kolle I mean, we can't judge **** by seeing one or two fights.. both guys are punchers! Margarito has by FAR the better opposition since squaring off with Williams.
Golden Johson was shot to pieces LW that they pulled off the street. That version of Johnson was not better than Kolle. The other two guys Margo beat were guys that wanted no part of Williams. None of this is relevant anyway. Williams already beat Margo. Williams can focus on beating Clottey and Berto; thus cleaning out the division. Margo can keep fighting Cotto and Cintron.
