Old ****er me mate :yep Well, not that old. The trip was a 13th birthday present off of my grandad. Them were the days when refs didn't stop fights at the first sight of claret. Poor old Ernie was an absolute mess when John H had finished with him. For my 18th he took me to watch Duran - Palomino at the garden....the day that Rocky Duran knocked down a horse :good
Palomino-Duran at MSG? Thats some present for a 18 esp. in those days (no offence!). You lucky ****er, my Dad used to take me to chicken in a basket watching the amateurs at our local Working Mens Club!!!
Scott Harrison vs Steve Robinson. The venue was so small that they oversold the tickets & there wasnt enough seats, & it descended into anarchy, the way I like it! As loads of us had tickets but all the seats were taken a big load of us had to stand, & it was great, just like watching a football match on the terracings! & Scotty laid a severe beatdown on Steve Robinson & the place was in uproar! Best boxing night of my life, cos it was all so overcrowded! poor Steve, said beforehand that he was going to leave harrison "lying on his face" silly man damn, I miss Scotty:-(
Hatton vs Castlio in vegas....it wasn't a full house but the thousands of Hatton fans never stop singing & cheering ....brilliant atmosphere!! + Ricky put on a great show!! well worth the money.Calzaghe vs Kessler is a close second! Cardiff just is'nt Vegas!!
lewis - holy at the msg was an awesome atmosphere, as was hatton mayweather. The most enjoyable fight was obviously castillo corrales 1, unbelievable...cant believe i was there!!!! funnily, i really enjoyed khan v limond too.
arturo gatti v micky ward 3 ricky hatton v kostya tszyu michael gomez v alex arthur ricky hatton v jose luis castillo
i agree with you, thought it was epic inside the stadium. not just that but the partying with the danish vikings outside the stadium in the pubs was a rite laugh. overall Calzaghe vs Kessler was the best fight night i have been too.
Probably the Haye v Macca fight. Being a Kevin Mitchell as well as a Haye fan, it was great night, great atmosphere and two "good" results. When young Kevin won the ABA title at York Hall in 2003 was also a great night, especially as I won tickets in a comp in the Evening Standard! If only I'd known Stuey at the time, because it was his mate (Gareth Couch) that Kevin beat in the final!
Calzaghe v Kessler....I found the atmos a bit flat, but then again I do attend rugby matches at the same stadium + might have been expecting the same typpe of atmos? (Although the banter with the Danish lads was class!!)
Haye v Macca, although decent inside the O2 (a mate of mine was blagging his way into exec boxes and getting us free pizza and red bull), the transport arrangements afterwards ruined the whole thing for me. I wanted to murder someone. In fact, If I hadn't been wandering around London til 6am and used up every last ounce of energy, I probably would have. There is simply nowhere near as much passion in boxing as rugby. It's just not going to happen. Shame...
