European heavyweights are more disciplined.

 

And it's not really confusing at all.. the european amatuer programmes are great.

 

It is when you consider all the greats from virtually every era in boxing were Americans.

I don't buy the 'they're all in the NFL and the NBA' argument either; they were always there when there were great fighters in the past. Yes, the dearth of American (well, heaveyweight ones) fighters still remains something of a mystery to me.

 

One can argue that US dominated the pros (not the amatuers) for so many years due to both Russia/Eastern Europe and Cuba being amatuer only countries. With the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, we saw the influx of Russian and Eastern European boxers immerge and begin to make their mark not only at HW but in other divisions too.

I also think that this situation has given a confidence boost to the rest of Europe as well.

 

Pretty much a mystery. Maybe they are just all crap and we don't need to think outside the box for reasons.

NFL/Basketball always has been a shitty theory. Every single talented kid goes into them, with that population? Come on, it only takes one.

 

I just think that we have an overflow of very talented Euro Heavies at the moment. I don't think it is a matter of us Americans being so bad, it is more than the Euros are so freakin good right now.

 

Some thoughts: Mostly are east Europeans, Chagaev is a Asian, Gomes is a Cuban, Arreola is ranked in two top 10's.

 

It is amazing what happens to sports when everyone has access.

 

All of our big, talented athletes are playing basketball, football and baseball. Much better reward to risk ratio and much more socially acceptable.

 

Sam Peter is not european either. If Klitschko beats him, then you can start talking.

 

Since when are Slavic fighters from the Soviet Union considered "European"?
