Cold Hard Truth could not have chosen a better nickname. I have the same exact perception that these fellas are electing PW as their champion knight to beat everybody else's favourite and since their number one selection boxes on the darker side of the moon these days. I couldn't be less troubled about what Paul, The Punisher or whatever his name is, has to say about people that don't even think about him before he calls them out... Talking about a marketability of a fighter or lack of thereof, Paul has none unless he is to outslick bigger names like Margarito, Shane, Miguel Cotto, even Zab Judah. Whateva! Paul spends 12 rounds slapping Clottey and wins a decision and so what? Nothing changes, they don't even get paid as best as they could with other options on the table for either side...

not speaking for myself because i dont really care what happens to margarito or what he does good or bad

i think marg huggers = paul williams haters because paul williams is a threat to marg

i think people who are starting to enjoy paul now are becoming paul huggers not becuase they hate margarito but because they hate his fans...

    edit:

i actually hate margarito fans... for the simple fact that before the cotto fight they were nowhere to be found

I spoke in generalities when I made those comments but I'm willing to bet that if you did a survey, you'd find that statement to be true for the most part. There's nothing wrong with supporting Margarito if your Mexican or Mexican American, routing for Williams because you're black and identify with him....or liking Hatton cause you're british. To deny that nationalistic and ethnocentric bias is not invloved in a lot of this "hate/nuthuggery" IMO is pretty niave my friend. :good

The only problem I have with your original post is how you automaticlly assume that Paul Williams fans are automatically left-over PBF fans. I am a die-hard Williams fan. I know him personally, and will root for him regardless of what names you come up with.

But I am not blinded by facts, and realize that Margo is also a great fighter, while Paul is not perfect.

Besides, the Margarito fans are MUCH more vocal, degrading, and uncompromising than Williams fans on this board. I am not a Margo-hater, but I have a problem with some of his fans who think he is the greatest thing since sliced ****ing bread, BUT THE GUY WHO BEAT HIM IS GARBAGE?!?!?!?

But somehow, you don't have a problem with them, huh?

By the way, I agree with your ethnic generalization, but I don't think there's anything wrong with people rooting for those they identify with. Boxing has been that way since before any of us were born.

I was excited about Paul Williams up until after the first Quintana fight, which IMO exposed his lack of boxing skills and his inablity to handle slick boxer/counterpunchers. He also doesn't hold any decisive wins (i.e. KO, domination) over any top 10 fighters in any weightclass. That doesn't make him a bad fighter, but it definitely doesn't make him elite.

The similarity between the PBF nuthuggers and the PW nuthuggers is that along with their heroes they love to claim how they would annihilate anyone that steps into the ring with them and they'll fight anyone and yada yada yada and that its beyond question, when in reality they haven't fought the best competition out there and have not proved much in the ring, but have only raised questions. They haven't beaten any top 147 fighters decisively, and instead cherry pick their matches against competition to make them look better than they are.
