It wasn't that big of a shot it was the fact that it came from a blind spot, just like a hook might. He goes down easy and thats that. Even if he has good recovery abilities like a Hamed it isn't going to help him win fights.
Its going to take a one punch KO artist to give Gamboa his first loss, I dont see anyone at feather or superfeather who can, maybe Juarez.
He needs to face some unknown Colombian power puncher with a padded record of all KOs. Cotto passed his colombian gutcheck but Khan failed miserably. Gamboa now hmm.......
Gamboa to beat nearly everyone at 126 with John being his hardest fight (I would make him a slight underdog due to John's counter boxng abilities). Guerrero at 130 would be his first big test in terms of chin checking - if he beats him, I don't worry any longer for him to make it to the p4p rankings...
That was impressive stuff from Gamboa. And about the fast 10 count, you could see Ramirez wanted to be counted out, he was hurt badly and it seemed to me he had already accepted defeat and didn't want to continue. I don't know if Gamboa hasn't got any defense, he seems to me that he thinks he doesn't need defense! He'll better rethink, if he's gonna face the division's elite.
Angulo will become a world champion. However, I was impressed much more by Sergio Martinez. He is awesome!!!
Just watched the Gamboa fight. It's on youtube, if anyone wants to rewatch it. [yt]apmgpZIaKys[/yt] I thought Gamboa gave us another very good, very entertaining, all-out, risky performance, the kind we've come to expect from him now. Ramirez' record made him look better than he atually was, I thought. He's certainly no puncher, and yet he hurt Gamboa a couple of times (Round 1: at 2:46, at 1:39, and with the flurries that followed that led to the knock down; Round 2: at 2:48 and 2:36). I'm surprised that the knockdown doesn't appear on the boxrec record, unless you click on the "book". Elbow or not, Gamboa was buzzed and would have gone down elbow or not from a Ramirez punch that would have followed, I think. Great comeback from Gamboa, showing great heart and pride, leading to the first KD of Ramirez, and even more exciting, great combos that led to the second KD. Great skills on display, again. Ramirez was a step backwards after Jimenez, and I hope to see Gamboa step up again soon. I am worried, again, about the combination of his temperament and chin, and that makes me think he might get stopped one day against a puncher of a decent level. Cannot but admire Gamboa for going all out to entertain the fans in these circumstances, though. He's certainly giving us our money's worth! I hope they won't overprotect him. Gamboa's syle will never change; his defence will not improve because he doesn't want to change! He takes so many risks to be exciting and aggressive, and it's a price worth paying for losing a couple on the way to becoming THE fan favourite for his refusal to compromise and go all out and the fact he is vulnerable only makes his fights more exciting. If you can make a lot more money by taking huge risks and losing a couple than by toning it down and remaining unbeaten, but less of a fan favourite, why not do the former? Look very much forward to his next fight!:good
