He has been training for like 2 months and i trained for over a year and yesterday we sparred and he kicked my ass. I mean this is a guy im supposed to beat and he made me look real bad. He is ****ing tall for his weight and has longer reach and was just coming at me with right hands that i coudn't see coming. In the third round i was slipping his jab and tagging him with my right but the first two rounds he whooped my ass and i didn't know what to do and it pisses me off because i have my second fight next week and i have real doubts...
i had a near identical situation some months ago,i sparred him again later that week and was more aggressive keeping the fight inside and it took away him reach advantage. ask him what stuff you could improve to make it harder for him,i always ask spar mates for tips and stuff.it might have been an off day.good luck with your fight.
coulda just been a bad day. we all have em. or maybe you dont have alot of experience with long reach fighters? well anyways keep sparring this dude and it will better you as a fighter. have no doubts going into a fight.
well if you've been training for a year this means that you are able to punch at list enough for a newbie to back up. A few good punches will make him spar more accurate and less aggressive and he won't be a problem any longer
happened to me a few months ago. Was so disappointed that I went home so pissed off. Next time I sparred with him, I utilized head movement and went to his body more. I got the better of him. Try using head movement and slipping his punches.
Try some inside pressure on this taller guy as mentioned slip under the jab work the body and move up for head shots. Remember that the body shots will lower his guard and set him up for head shots. If you don't take a beating once in a while you won't learn anything. Kind Regards Bill
