    Barrera boxed off the back foot for alot of that fight

    that took Hamed and everbody else by surprise

    everyone had him down as a come forward slugger up until that point

    he proved his intelligence and versatilty in that fight and it paid off for him

    like Kevin Kelly said after the Hamed fight

    "I have never seen that version of Barrera before"

    Quite possibly my favourite boxer of all time. The spot he left in boxing still hasn't been filled and I don't see anyone filling it anytime soon. He could have been the Pele of british boxing, but at the end of the day he knew that he could have to and as a result become british boxing's George Best.

    Yeah, he got his ass handed to him by MAB but even that loss doesn't seem that bad anymore given what Calzaghe did to Lacy.

    yes he was beaten fair and square

    but it was not some one sided 2 round beat down

    it was a competitive 12 rounder where Barrera got the better of the argument

    it only looked so bad cos Naz had talked himself up as some unbeatable legend

    It wan't that bad a loss at all :patsch 116-111 112-115 112-115 thats not anywhere near as bad as people make out.

    I wish barrera had of gone toe to toe with nas and we wouldnt be talking about it now :good

    Yeah, that's what I was getting at. In hindsight it wasn't such a bad loss. The fact that he chose not to come back to elite level afterwards makes it seem a lot worse too 'cause then all the Hamed haters get to use it as some sort of excuse that he was a overated blah blah blah.

    EDIT: Can I make it clear that I don't think the MAB loss was that bad, lol. I guess I'm wording myself wrong.

    The loss might have been a fatal blow to his invinvcible confidence

    and he might never have been the same again after that

    because if there ever was a "confidence" fighter it was Naseem

    without that he would not have been the special fighter he was

    however I believe the main reason he did not come back to elite level after that is because he was already winding down his career come the Barrera fight

    he was fighting less and less often

    and he had made millions

    and I think he felt fufilled with what he had achieved

    even if he had wan the Barrera fight - I still think the end of his career was near

    the come back against Calvo was just a flash in the pan - he was done as a prize fighter - win or lose the Barrera fight

    makes me sick when i hear people say that. Being arrogant was what made naseem who he was, it was what entertained british boxing fans for a good number of years. He talked the talk but more often then not he walked the walk. a true entertainer and truely missed.

    Mate I consider myself a bit of a Naz apologist on esb, but his mocking of opponents dose leave a bad taste in many peoples mouths. Thats just a natural human reaction.

    of course i see your point, but for me personally to have a few people like that is what makes the sport as special as it is, if he keeps winning then great, if he gets beat then all the haters will be very pleased. if everyone in the sport was humble and respective of opponents then the sport would not be half what it is. Just my opinion

    He'd already fallen out of love with the game and started believing his own press clippings before he fought MAB.

    Great fighter and entertainer though. He's wasn't chinny, he just used to get clipped because of his style.
