    Can you guys read?

at what point in any of my posts in this thread said anything relative to Cotto being finished?

I asked how the loss effected him in your eyes?

He missed out on 2 superfights in the process (DLH and PBF)

To EVER beat Margarito? He nearly had him last time.... Cotto beating Margarito is anything but far fetched.

In terms of this thread, I don't see why Cotto would be in "boxing's purgatory". He lost one fight.

how he will comeback remains to be seen,he might never be the same like Taylor after he fought Chavez or he could comeback strong like Barrera after the first Pac fight who knows.

but the guy is young and unless he pulls an Hamed and retires he still has a lot to give to boxing.99% of fighters lose at some point that doesnt mean theyre finished.

I think people are reacting to Cotto's loss because he was BROKEN by Margarito.

Williams lost to Quintana because he was outboxed and sloppy - he came back and won the rematch in convincing fashion, well done to him.

The only way Cotto could beat Margarito would be to sustain the plan of the early rounds better - he ran out of gas because he wasn't in tip top shape (I agree with Floyd sr here).

I wasn't expecting a rematch to happen so soon, because lets face it, he got his ass whipped.

No, you didn't say he is "finished", you just said he is in "boxing's 'purgatory'", which is a stretch of the imagination.

A loss itself is something any fighter can come back from, its no big deal, however the manner cotto lost in would be a worry, to be hunted down and stopped after dominating the 1 st 6 rounds and looking a million dollars while doing it.

It all depends how cotto comes back from the defeat, he can still be a big player and be number 1 at 147, he has the talent but he has takes the loss in his stride and works twice as had in the gym, i would possibly look at a new trainer as well

if anything he missed out on one superfight. Mayweather would never fight him.
well seeing how Margo didnt get to fight either one of those two ,Cotto probably didnt miss any superfight at all.

Sure, it's only one loss, but lets not forget what happened to fighters like Meldrick Taylor and George Foreman.

For the record, I don't think Cotto's done. Not by a long shot; however, fitsgeraldz brings up a valid point. Cotto, like Taylor, was on the verge of super stardom and got absolutely destroyed. Who are you to say that he's completely fine physically? None of you were in there taking any of Margo's shots. Horrible beating's take their toll in Boxing.

And the talk about Cotto running out of stamina is complete bull**** in my opinion. He's never had stamina problems before. At least not in recent fights. What slowed him down was the thorough ass kicking he was receiving.

    bladerunner,
Mayweather wouldve fought him ... a win over Margarito wouldve pulled him into the top 5 p4p and he wouldve been in line to fight DLH ... a possible win over DLH wouldve put him in position to challenge PBF ... an undefeated record ... wins over legit fighters in Mosley, Judah, Margarito*, and DLH* wouldve propelled him to superstar status and he wouldve been able to generate some pretty good money and numbers - which wouldve been something that PBF wouldve been looking for.

even before they faced each other they already deserved to fight Mayweather. the way you talk it makes it seem that a fighter has to beat anyone from flyweight to heavyweight to get a shot at Mayweather and even if they do that hes going to think about it.
    its ridiculous.

Let Cotto prove me wrong then. I just think the size difference is insurmountable for him.

Before they fought Margarito had never headlined a major event and Cotto had did 250k buys ... even DLH said that for him to fight Cotto he would not only have to win but have to do really good numbers.
