I've always thought of Cotto as the real deal, even after his loss to AM. I don't think he can beat AM, but he's not done. He is still a top fighter at 147. Let's be real, he was never an "Amir Khan":!: type backed up by a bunch of hype and meaningless fights against truck drivers and bartenders. The guy can fight.:bbb

  2. It wasn't that bad. Let's just hope Cotto bouncing back in his next fight. That's when this thread can be answered

The loss was very bad for Cotto. He went from one of the brightest lights in the sport -- and HBO's unquestioned 'golden boy' -- to beaten down guy who lost his '0' and who chose to essentially quit the fight without taking a punch at the end. This was worse than Taylor losing to Pavlik. Much worse, actually.

Something like 45 of 55 'experts' picked Cotto to beat Margo. The fight was a large wake-up call for many around the boxing world.

    even though he was stopped.

i thought he boxed a good fight.

he threw some mean combo's at margo. :bbb

i had him ahead when he was stopped.

margo just had that bit too much for him in the end.

but it was a more than respectable performance from cotto.

    he'll be back. :yep

Hearns was like 23 or 24 when he fought Leonard and was struggling to make weight. He was winning that fight before he gassed and then Leonard scored what some to believed to have been an early stoppage. Fatigue was a big factor in Hearns losing that fight. He really wasn't beat up that bad(Leonard probably took mor punishment). Hearns' age along with the circumstances surrounding the bout are what allowed him to bounce back.

Cotto is about to be 28, and he was beaten into submission in that fight. Cotto is a small Welter, and it is yet to be seen if he can overcome the big Welters. I'm not saying he can't come back, but his situation is totally different than Hearns'.

Cotto is still considered top3 at WW. The longer he stays inactive the more his last loss will mean alot. The truth is that it was a competitive fight. People seem to be forgetting that. Cotto needs to get back in the ring asap

Boxing is "what have you done for me lately" and what Cotto's done lately is get ktfo

Age, and punishment are important factors that determine mental impressions. Hearns had much more reason to feel confident about his career. He was still very young, and he wasn't beat up in that fight. He could've easily passed the loss up to fatigue. A change in weight class could've easily restored his confidence. I think it's safe to say Cotto's confidence probably took a bigger hit. He did everything he could and it wasn't good enough. He took a shitload of punishment and Margo was walking through his punches. I don't know how you can't why the two situations are different.
