He said Vitali was going to use the ring and optimize his reach/size advantage. It was a short interview and he said a few more things, but it sounds a lot like he's going to try to fight the way he fought Sanders. I wonder if he can still keep that up now, though.
What do you think...??? Is he going to borrow the famous "Uncle Manny's 'Jab & Grab'...???" Using his reach, staying away...there is of course that training photo with him practicing holding....
Thats the type of a fight he should fight, but I doubt thats what he's going do. I see Peter boding him into a slugfest, where Vitali wont hold up, especially on the inside.
Klit's chances to win this fight is go for kill as soon he gets the right moment to do it before 6 round, otherwise he will fade, cos of his age and inactivity
Vitali has more chance of winning in a slugfest than using his legs after four years out of the ring.
Well it's not Joe Frazier in front of him, it's Samuel feet stuck in the mud Peter. I don't think he meant he was gonna dance, because he popped Sanders with plenty of leather, using that strategy. Just that he's probably going to take a step back when Peter lunges in, make him miss, and make him pay. That's using your height. He's much more happy to counter punch than Wlad is; don't know if his reflexes can still take that, though.
You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Vitali will be the same old Vitali and Peter will be the same old Peter. If anyone thinks slugging it out is a mistake for Vitali, well look at his knockout record and you'll see it isn't a mistake. As far as being able to go rounds, what does taking off have to do with that? You can train to get in shape in training camp. You can make yourself able to go rounds. That doesn't make sense.
"Using the ring" is contradictory to economy. He needs economy, I presume. I mean he may have boxed himself into tip top condition, I don't know, but if he hasn't, he wants economy of movement. That means very intelligent pressure, using the ring only when he has to - moving when he has to. A lot has been made of Peter's power. A lot has also been made of Peter's failure to land on "top level" opponents. The point at which Vitali crosses over from being a "top level" opponent and starts being a man who is hittable by Peter due to fatigue is the exact point where he is courting danger. Of course he should "use the ring", but if that is his primary strategy, he should lose. I don't like the sound of that at all. If he let's Peter move him around the ring - and although I accept your point, you don't need to be Frazier to force a man to execute his own fight plan - he will gas.
Sdunek also said they have a Plan A, B, and C for every fight. Kirk Johnson wanted to come out and slug and got knocked out. Sanders got ground down and stopped. Williams almost got stopped in the first round then ground down and stopped. Vitali can fight a few different ways. But he is mostly a grind them down and knock them out type of fighter.
Vitali has only held against Lewis, and he has never gassed. He breaths hard at the end of fights, simply because he keeps a high work rate every round, every time. He´s there to KO people, not to win by points. Peter is similar to Danny Williams, but better. It will take Vitali a few more rounds to KO him. Vitali by KO, round 10.
Vitali is past his Slugitout days, I doubt he has the conviction to take the punishment anymore and he's looking skinny these days, I'm pretty sure his only chance is to rely on his movement. And of course he is going to utlize his brother's effective strategy against Peter...
He's always proven to have a very good economy of punches and is usually able to get his man out of there when the situation presents itself, proof is in the knock out ratio.
it's a strategy that works against a power puncher like Peter, keep in mind that Sanders is way faster than Peter ever was. thanks.
