You only give one close round to Whitaker. In my opinion Whitaker had a big 11th round and won decisively the first round.

There was never any real true controversy regarding this fight. Anyone with a level head knows that Oscar won this fight in a rather clear fashion. Sweat Pea didn't even put up a winning effort throughout half of it. Even with the bogus knockout call against Oscar.

If there was no real controversy then why did Ring Magazine (who had Whitaker winning the fight) put out a cover demanding that DLH give Whitaker a rematch?

And why, subsequently, did they have a magazine cover like this, if it was so clear that DLH won? Notice the words 'never really lost' under Pete's name:

DAYMN! I had Oscar winning but not by that margin...still a very good, close fight but DLH definitley won. With that Said a prime Pernelle would have beaten DLH IMO. It still would be a close competitive fight but Pernelle is a genius in there.

 "Robbed" :rofl You're a clown if you call that a robbery...even if you had Pea winning that was not a robbery. Fight was close but DLH won Clearly in a competitive fight.

Whitaker was never a judges favourite throughout his career - good job he isn't fighting now, he would be little more than a journeyman as fights tend to be scored on aggression as much as anything else these days.

I would agree with you 100%...However, the poll on who won this fight is completely split so there certainly is a controversy even though I also think Oscar won the fight clearly.

Half of those who voted for Sweat Pea have never seen the fight, and the other half are biased. Honestly... the boxing public is extremely fickle. Just like you have people now claiming crazy **** like Tito actually beat Oscar... and that Mosley won the second fight with Oscar, when after the fight you couldn't find anyone crazy enough to make such claims. Over time... people just believe what they hear. Whitaker played around too much, and did almost ZERO effective punching of his own in that fight. Dancing, and feather dusting can only get you so far, when your opponent has landed over DOUBLE the power punches throughout the fight and is making the fight.

Hell... you could probably get half of the people on this site to vote that Gatti was beating Oscar at the time of their stoppage.

    It was very close.

I had it a draw the first time I saw it. Then DLH winning by one point.
