    Article appeared in the journal "L'Équipe" on the 6th of August 2007, translated from french:

    Fidel Castro has assured that his countrymen Guillermo Rigondeaux (25), two time Olympic Gold medalist at bantamweight, and Erislandy Lara (24) amateur world champion at welterweight, who deserted the cuban delegation at the panamerican games, will not go to jail at their arrival in their native Cuba. The brazilian police has stated that Ringondeaux and Lara, who planned to turn pro in Germany, asked to be taken back to Cuba where they arrived yesterday. According to the newspaper Juventud Rebelde, Castro assured that "The two cuban civilians won't be sentenced. However, they will not set food into a boxing ring again but will be given an occupation related to their knowledge and experience in the sport."

    Man I hate to see that. From all accounts these two were the real deal. I would have loved to have seen what these two could have done in the ring. Just more wasted Cuban talent by that **** Castro.:mad:

    My pops (who was born in Cuba) said once Fidel dies Raul wont be in power for very long. He said he doesn't posses the power or the discipline of his older Brother and will be easily pushed out of office

    As far as they want continue boxing they have to leave Cuba, so i think they will escape again.

    Thats true, but they will find a way to get out of cuba if they find themselfs in a very unconfortable situation since not being able to box any more, i think they will leave... and if they reach Florida, its not the same as Brazil... there is no going back for them.
