Tarver v. Dawson is also not the greatest fight in that the styles don't contrast very well, I think. This is another reason why I would have preferred to see Dawson v. Diaconu. Anyway, this fight should provide a good opportunity to learn, improve and impress for Dawson. Let's see what he does after this fight.
Bernard Hopkins still beats Chad Dawson, even now. He made the two best southpaws in this era look like fools. so Imagine what he will do to young Chad, a guy even limited Glen Johnson figured out.
By no means did Dawson land the better shots. You might want to go rewatch the fight and take note when Dawson is wobbled on more than one occasion. I'm not even a great fan of pressure fighters, but a won round is a won round, regardless of the style of the fighter. It is possible to score this for Dawson, but by means can you say it was a clear win or that it could not have gone in Johnson's favour.
Although Garay does lack power, I would still like to see him fight Dawson. He would be right in front of Dawson the whole fight applying max pressure. I think Erdei is too high on your list. He has wasted his career fighting bums in Germany and is now past his prime. 4 years ago he would have had a chance against Dawson but not today.
Honestly, I hate Chad's guts. I have trouble making an unbiased opinion about him. I know he's good, but to me, I can't wait until he gets knocked out. Now, if I TRY to be unbiased, the only way I see Tarver winning is with a bomb. He's not busy enough, not quick enough, not young enough to win a UD.:rasta
Quite a few people could take out Dawson if they landed a bomb, even if they weren't punchers. But it's not quite as easy as that, even though Dawson does stand his ground and doesn't move his head much. Tarver will not respect him too much, though, that's for sure, as other did, notably Adamek, who should have done the business. Tarver won't mind swinging if he feels it's the way to go. :conf
One question I have though, I don't know tarver enough but does he have a good defence or chin? 'cause if he does, getting inside won't be too much of a problem (Example, Johnson) but if he doesn't.. ouch.
He's smooth, allright, but he is inactive, which means that Dawson will go a lot to the body and Tarver will just take it. He has a very good chin, yeah! He'll have to take the fight on the inside but it's not what he usually likes doing. He'd much rather take potshots at his opponent from the outside and flurry him from time to time. Against Dawson, given Dawson's style and Tarver's inactivity, he cannot fight on the outside and hope to achieve anything.
Exactly what I was thinking. But I am not sure you can change an old ******. He might try to potshot for the first few rounds.. trying to counter Dawson. If he does, he'll lose. But I don't see Tarver going to war. He's no mexican that's for sure.
If he were in his prime, he'd beat Dawson. But not now, as far as I can make out. He'll try everything, but unless Dawson makes a big mistake and Tarver gets lucky (which is not impossible)...the worst of it is that Tarver cannot force mistakes the way Johnson could, by pressuring Dawson. Dawson should be able to control the ring to his heart's content. We'll see.
Diaconu:fire The thread starter made a few incorrect statments about Adi 1. His short stature is not a handicap...He uses his height to his advantage and is relatively difficult to hit cleanly 2. His defense honestly is average, when he's not throwing he has a decent gaurd as well as the necessary amount of movement. 3. He can box well however his height in this case necessitates the style he has used his entire career. Agressive, bobbing, dipping, ducking to get inside which he does very well. 4. Diaconus stamina is suspect but many fail to take into consideration that when he fought Henry he was sick with strep....so I give him the benefit of the doubt on that one 5. Diaconu is very ring smart, he constantly is studying and measuring his opponent and planning attack which shows with his accuracy 6. The Henry fight did show that Diaconu can counterpunch and can do so very well as he countered Henry at will all night, in some cases going backwards
I agree with all except I say his stamina is bad,and it wasn't just cuz of his problems,I think he has a stamina problem, that was the main thing that didn't work with Henry, gave him some problems with Thysse but that is it:good
