Who is the best fighter who ever fought at JUNIOR-WELTERWEIGHT??

    OK, it's obviously Roberto Duran, but he never won a world title there or fought there for more than the odd filler fight or two.

    Who was the greatest champion H2H at 140? ATG Tony Canzoneri fought at super-lightweight in the early 1930s before the division was discontinued for 30 years, so we will make this discussion from the resumption of the junior-welterweight division in the 1960s.

    The choices are (I may have overlooked some contenders, if I have then bring them up):

    - NICOLINO LOCCHE

    - ANTONIO CERVANTES

    - WILFRED BENITEZ

    - AARON PRYOR

    - PERNELL WHITAKER

    - JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ

    - KOSTYA TSZYU

    - FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR


    Who would be your choice and why for the best fighter ever H2H at 140?

    J.C. Chavez is the greatest champion at 140, but not the ALL-TIME best fighter to fight there.... Guys, like "Duran, Pryor, Floyd & Roger Mayweather, Whitaker & DLH" deserve a lot of credit at 140, too..... NO! Duran never held a title there, but he fought a lot in the 1970's at 138 to 143 pounds..... Does it really matter??

    Aaron Pryor. Poor resume as far as supposed greats go, but one can not underestimate his H2H abilities at this weight.

    It's him or Whitaker anyway.

    aaron pryor was a natural light welter spent his career there and his unorthodoxy/workrate/power/chin/ make him hard to pick against for me.

    IMO fighters must spend a lot of time in a weightclass to get a top ranking , which is why i would not rate duran at all at this weightclass despite his potential at the weight.

    julio cesaer chavez was a great 130 fighter ATG AT the weight IMO but at 140 he was above his best weight whereas pryor was at his natural weight.

    agree with sweet peas list plus chavez. I also might put oscar de la hoya at the tail end of the top 10 based on h2h, he certainly would have beaten. kosta tszyu.

    IMO whitaker spent to little time at light welter.

    i can only remember about 2 fights at the weight .

    i remember him fighting nelson at lightweight and i remember the buddy mcgirt welterweight fight.

    was it pineda he beat for the light welter title ?

    pineda was quite average and i sompy cannot remember who whitaker beat at 140 besides him.

    i would have to look up boxing rec.

    but i followed whitaker from los angeles in 84 and i am pretty sure i would have remembered if he did much at 140.

    i am pretty sure he just collected a belt and passed through and as a result this should affect his rating at the weight as we have nothing to base or rate it on over a period of time.
