I'll get shot for this but, here goes.... Diego Corrales was a great warrior, but NOT a great fighter... Corrales' skills were marginal at best, but his heart was well in tact..... Also, it is a little too late for this, but he was a total jackass to be drunk as a skunk and riding a 1000cc motorcycle at high speeds in the Vegas area.... I have owned severel bikes in my day and, believe me, they ain't toys.... Diego Corrales got himself killed for screwing around.... Yes, a great warrior; not a great fighter....

I completely disagree. Corrales was a great fighter. Had devastating power, excellent infighting (especially for his size), and as afore mentioned a huge heart. You don't beat some of the guys Corrales beat without being a great fighter.

It's conceivable that he knew exactly what he was doing being so drunk and driving at high speed. However I don't want to debate whether it was an accident or Corrales got his desired outcome.

I just like to remember the fighter, and he was a damn good fighter.

    Nice tattoo Freddie :good

I disagree about Corrales being a great fighter... I do NOT see it.......... Being involved in some great fights does NOT necessarily mean the fighter himself is great....... Hell, two limited brawlers who are evenly matched can put on a great show, but that doesn't mean that they are truly great in terms of skills, etc..... Peace..

technically, casa is a great fighter but boring as **** to watch sometimes....chico who was always exciting with limited skills, beat him.....

being a great fighter doesn't mean you gotta be a textbook boxer...cause at the end of the day, chico was a true GREAT FIGHTER, while others remain GREAT BOXERS.......big difference

but this thread aint about that.....:good

Depends on one's definition of a "great" fighter. If you only reserve the label of "great" to guys like Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones, or Bernard Hopkins, then no, Diego Corrales was not a great fighter.

But he was a very good fighter. In an era that showcased guys like Casamayor, Freitas, Castillo, and Corrales, Chico was the only individual to defeat the other three. One could make the argument that following the Floyd Mayweather era at junior lightweight/lightweight, Corrales was the best fighter of his time.
