What was Peter's gameplan?

Peter had to make it ugly by going in throwing to the body even during clinches and do what he has to do, he played respectful and stayed on the outside where Vitali WANTS him to be and CLEARLY without attempting anything new. Think their plan was to be patient and weather the storm early as they said only to see Vitali break down from throwing a lot and getting tired, that didn't happen at all and for it to happen Peter had to actually TRY and do something, Vitali just wasn't going to allow him.

 

Peter lacks the skills to get inside. Its easy to make it ugly when your opponent opts for the huggy-bear route because he is silly enough to put himself close to you, but Vitali didn't do that.

Peter has no head movement, bad footwork and terrible foot speed. He has an alright jab when he tries to use it but he was too short for it in this case anyway. The only real way i could see him getting inside regularly is if he just kept bum rushing Vitali, but he doesn't really have the speed of foot for that and Vitali has excellent timing so he would have had to eat big flush shots to do it.

To be honest i think Peter was just completely bewildered.

 

Pretty fair and on point. Peter just didn't know what to do and never had an answer for anything, like I said after the first he probably thought he will make Vitali throw till he gets tired, once he noticed Vitali isn't getting tired anytime soon he just knew it was pointless.

 

that clown doesn't even know what a gameplan is.....he can only do one thing, come straightforward and throw shots, that's why his lost was inevitable to begin with

anyone who thought he stood a chance against vitali was foolish

 

The simple answer is, he didn't have one. Or at least didn't stick to it.

I concur that Vitali's style is a nightmare for a fighter like Peter.

BUT Peter WAS able to get inside in his fight with Wlad and give him many problems. He didn't even TRY to change anything in the fight with Vitali.

He had to be mentally overwhelmed by Vitali before the fight even started. I can't explain it any other way.

 

He clearly did not have one. I thought he would be much more agressive. He always was in the wrong distance.

 

Must have been impressed by Jeff Lacy in the Calzaghe fight.

 

I am glad to see I am not the only one to feel this way. It looks like Peters got paid to be a punching bag. He didn't even try. I mean, HE didn't even put his hands up to cover his face. He needed to grab Vitali, push him,throwing to ropes. But he didn't. He allowed Vitali to fight from the distance. Where Peters didn't even have a chance to connect a single punch

 

no disrespect to peter but he he is one of the poorest H/W champions i have seen in over 20 years of watching the sport. no handspeed,no foot speed, blowing after a couple of rounds,no head movement,no ability to slip shots and no plan B. vitali fought well considering his lay off but peters style was perfect for him...vitali couldnt miss him all nite long. peter was a caretaker champ at best,take nothing away from vitali but we need fights against people like povetkin,arreola or haye,not ruiz ,rahman and the other old men of the division..

 

Getting inside on Vitali probably.Guess what?It didn't work.Vitali ain't no Maskaev

 

I have said many times that Peter needs a new trainer. McKinley is garbage. I think Peter was going to try the Lamon Brewster gameplan and block punches with his face and hope Vitali gasses out.

 

obviously it was to bob his head, pump the jab, get in close, and throw the overhand right.

 

Peter had to slug with Klitschko and he didn't even try to do that. Even Lewis had to slug with Klitschko

 

It didn't matter.

Vitali's was ****ing genius.

Anyone who understands boxing could see that Peter struggled mightily with hooks and uppercuts. He just can't see them coming.

Wlad hurt him, McCline dropped him, and Maskaev bothered him all with hooks or uppercuts.

Vitali went left hook crazy, especially anytime Peter tried to engage. After a few rounds his guard was split and Vitali unloaded jabs.

Just brilliant ownage.
