Vitali punches extremely hard and he had not hit Peter as hard as he could have, he was saving the really hard blows for the next few rounds. Peter was getting hurt badly.

Vitalli again did his homework and it showed when he removed any ideal Peter had of counter punching. He doubled up on his left hands and got off first and mover out of range. Peter was frozen unable to match the older Klitchko's footwork or work rate. Klitchko was slamming right hands into a Peter that was unable to get squared up or get off.

Peter's corner was no help at all. They too were frozen in shock seeing their worst nightmare come true. Going in they never saw the subtle things in Klitchko's game that make him so hard to fight. They like most fans have never figured out that a giant will never look light on his feet and as such they missed the fact that Klitchko has very good footwork. That is why they never offered any advise as to how slow down the older man. They had none to give. It never dawned on them to train their fighter to get a little lower and be able switch to a crossed arm defence to stop those left hands Klitchko was busting up their fighter with. I never saw Peter try close the distance behind a double jab. It would not have been pretty but at least he would have given Kllitchko something to think about other than plowing shots into Peter's face. May have even opened up the body for Peter to work because he was not getting to the taller mans head until he took his legs with some body work. It was clear the entire Peter team was out of it's league before the midpoint of the fight.

It is easy to say Peter had no business with the belt he lost to the champion. The manner he was beaten may to some be proof. But who has fared better against Dr.Ironfist? Sure we all know Byrd has a win over Vitalli and we all know how that happened. Lennox Lewis one of the most skilled and most powerful fighters to ever enter the ring also beat Vitalli in a barnburner of a fight. The rest have gone down hard looking pretty bad in the process. Watch what happens if Vitalli decides to defend. The next guy is getting some of the very same treatment Peter received. Put Chambers, Brock or Gomez in there and watch the beat down. All their faces are going to be rearranged buy the champ if he decides to fight on. No one in this division is going to beat Vitalli.

Eastern European fighters are tops when it comes to mental warfare and the Klitschkos are the cream of the crop. How many times have we seen opponents say what they're going to do to Wladimir during press conferences as Wlad would sit there with just a smile. Vitali was in Peter's head and Peter fought like it. The hostile environment just made it worse. Peter fought like he was in quicksand.

I had picked Peter by ko. He looked as if he was glued to the ground. He stood at the end of Vitali's punching range and acted like hed rather be watching "The Notebook" then being in a championship fight. The bad thing for me is now I wonder is there really any heavyweight fights out there any time soon that are even worth watching. The k Brothers seem to be head and shoulders above all else.

    Thanks for the excellent post!

Vitali confirmed before the fight that he is breaking / will break down Peter mentally.

The first thinkg Vitili said after the fight was he was not taking chances, and in the the post fight interview he said he knew he'd KO him in the next round or two....Everyone without an eye could see that.

I think he would have won even if Peter had not been mentally discouraged.

Why did Peter lose to Klitschko ? Keep the analysis simple...
The mental aspect came into play only a little, the main reason is simply because Sam Peter is a limited fighter, athletically, technically and mentally (to out think and adapt).

Vitali Klitschko was superior to him in every department...because he simply is and always was !!!

Vitali's inactivity was a serious question mark but Peter's lack of talent against a master to keep smaller fighters at bay, was enough for me to be sure Vitali would be victorious !

Sam Peter has always been overhyped the exact same way that Edison Miranda was since 2004 ! A lot of power but too limited to hang on a long term basis with the best boys in the game !!!

    Very interesting post,mate! Well done!

I,too, think that Sam's heart went right into his boots when he entered the huge O2 arena in Berlin knowing that he was going to be in the toughest fight of his career in front of a big hostile crowd.
Vitaly somehow got under his skin, and so did the huge arena and the big crowd.

I would not be shocked to see Peter go with a different trainer and team. They were on no help to him at all. Their gameplan was a joke.

And so was the behaviour of Sam's coach during the press conference!

A coach should know how to behave in front of his boy's opponent.Discipline is the Alpha and Omega of the business.A good coach demands discipline so that he should be as cool as a cucumber in moments of emotional stress.
Sam Peter's coach behaved like an amateurish trainer of a suburban thug club somewhere in the USA.

    :good

I had Peter ranked 5th going into this fight, he's a contender but is tailormade for Peter and not a true elite fighter anyway. Vitali-Valuev would be interesting.
