Does "Open" scoring rule or stink?

Stinks get rid of it.

 

I should put my feelings this way; I don't mind fighters quitting. I think it's better to quit when you don't believe you can win than to take unnecessary punishment. What scares me about open scoring is fighters who are on top running out the clock. That is truly disgusting.

 

Actually it sucks . . . because it's killing the excitement especially on closely contested rounds . . . but on the other hand it prevents scrupulous judges from making "magics" . . . less controversial results . . . fighters and corners cannot claim robbery because they know where they stand at every instance of the fight. :deal

I think it has so far proven extremely sporadic in its effects. On a few occasions we've seen it appear to directly change the action in a fight. I recall a fight where a fighter stepped it up when he knew he was losing by a number of points. However on more occasions we've seen people shut up shop when they knew they were in control of a large lead.

It can be argued that it makes corruption harder but I wouldn't say this is necessarily true. Sometimes when the scores are announced they are as wildly different as they would have been anyway. The way to tackle corruption is through greater scrunity of dubious decisions and more importantly accountability for those who make them. Not these cheap gimmicks.

Peter quit after hearing the scores. Without the open scoring he'd probably have continued and been stopped a couple of rounds later... and i would have won more money arrrghhhh

 

Here's, in a nutshell, why we are seeing a wave of hate and anger at open scoring, but let's be real. The only the that would have happened if Peter kept fighting was one or two more rounds of Vitali dominating and then getting a KO.

It's not like he needed that score to tell him that he was getting his ass whipped. Even without open scoring, anyone could have told you he was losing every round.

On the flip side, why not argue that knowing you're losing...or knowing the fight is officially close...why shouldn't that motivate some fighers to get off their asses and put it all on the line?

I don't love or hate open scoring, but I think there should be more experimenting with it.

 

Hate it-except for fights in Germany where the judges are normally deaf,dumb and blind.:nono

 

I understand the theory behind the supporting arguments, but I have yet to see any case of open-scoring actually being benifical.
