No, kiddo, Hopkins never had Calzaghe hurt. That's why there was no kill for him to choose to go in for.

If you're referring to the first round KD, (knock down), it was a "flash" knockdown. That means you go down but aren't hurt; you come back right up with a clear head. Calzaghe has a world class chin. Dawson doesn't. Once Dawson is hurt, his head is all muddled for half a minute or longer, even when he doesn't go down.

And, in boxing, if a fighter is very different to another, like these two are (Calzaghe and Dawson), in a critical aspect, like their chins, in this case, the fact that a third fighter (Hopkins, in this case) failed to beat one (Calzaghe) doesn't mean he would fail to beat another (Dawson) (people refer to this by saying "styles make fights").

    Take care now.:thumbsup

Calzaghe-Dawson would be more entertaining IMO...But, Pavlik-Calzaghe is what will happen if both get by rjj/hopkins

Hopkins floored Calzaghe. It was not a flash knockdown, Calzaghe went down on his back and the count didn't stop til 6. A perfectly legitimate, textbook knockdown, no BS about being off-balance or anything. True, Joe Cal wasn't all over the place, but you must realize that if that had been the Hopkins of 97-01 in that ring, he would've pushed hard to finish the job. Because Hopkins was scared he would gas at his age, he didn't do that in this fight. That is no longer his mindset. When he knocked down Tarver, he didn't go hunting a stoppage either. Why would Hopkins suddenly change the mindset he has got into over the past few years for one fight against Dawson? And does Dawson have a worse chin than Tarver? I don't think so. You clearly weren't impressed by Dawson's resilience in the Johnson fight, I was.

As I said, if they ever fight, I'm up for a wager. :hi:

calzaghe admitted himself that he was hurt in that first round, he said his head was swimming for a brief time.

First of all, you are always floored in a flash knockdown, unless the ropes stop you from falling.

Secondly, the fact that Calzaghe went down on his back is immaterial to the question of whether it was a flash knockdown or not. A flash knockdown simply means that you aren't hurt by it, that your head clears right away and you are good to go; it has nothing to do with the part of your body you fall on, once you're knocked down.

Thirdly, when the ref stopped counting has, again, nothing to do with whether it was a flash knockdown or not. Calzaghe got back right up with a clear head, looking embarrased. That is a flash knockdown. Even if the ref thinks it was a flash knockdown, he is within his rights to give you an 8 count.

Fourthly, flash knockdowns ARE legitimate knockdowns.

Fifthly, you don't have to be off-balance for you to get knocked down by a flash knockdown.

Again, you don't know what a flash knockdown means. I told you before it is when you get right up, with a clear head, from a knock-down. This, and nothing else. If you don't believe me, look it up in a book you trust.

The reason Calzaghe fell down on his back of all places is that Hopkins used his body weight to push him over when he knocked him down. That's intertia at work right there. It doesn't mean he was hurt or that his head was all muddled up for longer than a moment.

Yawn again. You really are a master of taking a long long long long time to say something that could be said in a sentence or two.

I know what a flash knockdown is, I can give you examples of them if you want. When the count goes to six and there are noticeable after-effects of the punch, IMO that is not a flash KD. Otherwise, the vast vast majority of knockdowns are "flash" :patsch

Despite another 70 lines of your inane preaching, I stand by my initial 4 reasons completely, for saying that Hopkins would not stop Dawson:

    - I think Dawson proved in the Johnson fight that he has a good chin
    - I don't think Hopkins necessarily hits significantly harder than Johnson
    - Hopkins hasn't stopped anyone since a lower-weight fighter 4 years ago
    - Hopkins had Calzaghe hurt and chose not to go in for the kill

And I reiterate that I am up for a wager if they ever fight. If you have nothing new or interesting to add, I suggest you give up as your argument has no quality to match the sheer quantity of it. A rather feeble attempt. Hopefully we'll see who is right after the Pavlik fight if Hop and Dawson sign for a scrap.

Don't worry, I have wasted enough time with you and I shall not waste any more in future. There's a German saying: "You are a fool if you have an argument with a fool; you cannot win because he'll drag you down to his level and dominate you with his experience!"

Wow, I'm surprised at the number of people picking Calzaghe vs Pavlik.

Most Calzghe fans will pick that fight because Calzaghe would get more credit for a win against Pavlik with the American boxing establishment and with casual fans, in general, because it's an easier fight, because Pavlik is a better fighter p4p for most people, because Pavlik is a much bigger star in he USA, and because it looks like he'll have a better legacy than Dawson, because his weaknesses aren't as serious. The better fight from a purist's point of view, though, is against Dawson, I think.

Dawson would be a tougher fight for Joe IMO. It's the one I'd like to see.

I guess people would like to see kelly vs Joe because there is a small chance of seeing Calzaghe KOed in that fight, whereas Dawson would probably beat him on a points decision.

Still, I vote for Dawson, who is the #1 LHW in the world right now, head-to-head.

Prepare yourself for a 3000 word essay from Decebal on how wrong you are to believe Dawson is one of the top 2 lhw's, as Bernard Hopkins would KO him if they fought just now.... get ready.... it's coming..... you'll also probably get attacked for suggesting Dawson would be a tough fight, as apparently he has an Amir Khan style marshmallow chin........
