Paul Williams .Vs. Miguel Cotto

Cotto would box his sox off. Cotto is not just a pressure fighter. Cotto has too much class. Williams is a sloppy pressure fighter, but unlike Margarito, his pressure isn't constant and draining, its throwing volumes of pitter-patter punches. Paul was just as active the first time he fought Quintana as he was against Margarito. The problem was Quintana didn't stand right in front of him. Cotto is no fool. If PW had trouble hitting Quintana, it would be twice as hard finding Cotto whose boxing pedigree is head and shoulders above that of CQ.

as much as i like cotto, dont think he can beat williams.

 

Margarito's body shots didnt affect Williams if you watch the fight all the way through from about the 4th round till the 10th Margarito was hitting williams body at will, If Williams sits down on his punches he can stop Cotto if he tries to box with him he will lose ud like vs Quintana1

 

also Cotto has stamina punches and the knew strategies team Williams has been using of late really is putting his punching power to good use(quintana 2, Kolle) PW is just physically too strong for Cotto and Cotto would'nt be able to hurt him at all because Margarito who dishes out more punishment in the long run could'nt faze Williams, PW to stop Cotto much earlier than Margarito did

Cotto loses one fight and as far as ESB is concerned he's as good as dead. Paul Williams has one good win, actually it's a great win over margo, but that's it. He stole early rounds and held on to beat margo and now he's ****in tommy hearns. Margo and Williams are completely different fighters and have different styles so comparing Williams fight with margo and cottos fight with margo doesn't accurate protray how a fight between Williams and Cotto would play out. If you look at the fight objectively Cotto has most of the advantages as far as skill and talent. Williams has the physical advatanges except for one of the most important... Power. Margo was able to do what he did to Cotto because his pressure opened opportunities for his power. Williams doesn't have the same power as margo. He throws alot of pitter patter punches and most of his kos have come from an accumulation of punches not sheer power. Cotto has enough power to hurt Williams. If Cotto works to Williams body he has a good shot at stopping williams if if they do more boxing than sluggin or if Cotto decides to box rather than pressure it will be a tougher closer fight that could end in a decision for either man depending on if the judges prefer clean effective punches or punch volume. In no way is this an easy win for either man, much less an easy win for Williams. It getting bit ridiculous the lack of respect Cotto has gotten after losing ONE fight to a good fighter. No wonder floyd is so scared to loss his 0 he fights junior welterweights and washed up fighters.

I disagree. Let's look at some of the fighters Cotto fought that could take a punch; N'Dou, Malignaggi, Mosley, Margarito. All 4 of those guys gave Cotto trouble. Miguel has a suspect chin. If you can withstand his firepower, you can get to him and hurt him. Paul has a proven chin, he can punch, and he has a huge size advantage over Cotto. Cotto is only 5 "6 and has short arms. Williams is about 6"2 with a huge wingspan. Cotto would have a tough time getting inside on Williams. And even if he did get inside, Williams is a pretty adept inside fighter.

Williams has been sitting on his punches in his last couple of fights. If he does that against Cotto, he can pick him off from the outside all night and eventually stop him. Williams is a tough matchup for Cotto, which is why they didn't even entertain the idea of matching Cotto with Williams after Williams beat Margo.

 

Arum will never let Cotto in the ring with Williams. He nearly sued Margo for getting in the ring with Williams.

 

Yup, Williams is a SMW who happens to be able to make WW. No sane promoter would put a 5 "6 fighter who's as fragile as Cotto in the ring with Williams. If Margo wasn't a Top Rank fighter, Cotto/Margo would've never happened.

 

How long do you think Williams can drain himself to WW? From the way he talks about it, it seems he'll be there for a bit. I give it two years tops then he's gotta go to 154 but he can definitly rule 147 for that period of time.


If Williams and Cotto got in the ring, it wouldn't be a matter of if Cotto gets hurt it would be a matter of how long till he gets hurt.

 

Quintana is 3 inches taller than Miguel and is a lefty. Los was also knocked out in round 1 in the rematch. So even if he tried to copy Quintana's gameplan, Cotto is still liable to get stopped. Cotto is too small for Williams, there is a reason that Top Rank has steered clear of this fight.
