Golota was set to live in the states when he made his mark with boxing and got to interact with the promoters from the USA and he was a Bronze Medalist as well. The rest you mention are very true, guess it differs for one man to another based on their situations or who they selected. After all I would assume they were new on the boxing scene and possibly didn't have enough knowledge nor connections on who to contact to get the best results so they went with what they had.
I don't understand this at all. Klitschko came back after 4 years and didn't even have a warm-up fight, but went straight in against the man most people thought was the no2 heavyweight in the world. To me, that's the very opposite of cherrypicking, since he literally could not fight the no1. Also, he challenged the best heavyweight of his era for the title (Lewis) when there were far easier options out there. Also, he fought and beat the man who stopped his brother in 2 rounds (who is now viewed as the world's no1 heavyweight), Corrie Sanders. His resume isn't very strong (yet), but to say he is a cherrypicker just doesn't make sense.
He was originally sheduled to fight one of those "easier options", Cedric Boswell, until Kirk Johnson pulled out of the fight with Lennox. More importantly though, why did he chose to fight for the WBO belt when Lennox was prime, and only chase Lennox when he was 37 years old?
:good But I don't there was anymore he could do--it was his mgmt's fault. No one took him to be a serious contender. Fighting Dave Bostice in 2003? He was willing to fight anyone-anywhere.
He was rising at that point as already mentioned and was probably taking one step at a time without rushing, eve Lennox had his share of obligations back then with talks of fighting Tyson being rumored, Grant, Botha, Tua..etc, don't think he would have preferred an unknown in Vitali over those highly ranked fighters or mandatories of his. He never chased Lewis late either, the offer came to him as a replacement for Johnson and he took it.
I told you Vitali was a cherry picker, now hes chasing a 43 year old Lewis. Keeping up with his career, avoiding the dangerous fights and cherry pickin'. This content is protected
Anyone can say they are willing to fight "anyone-anywhere", but if he REALLY wanted it he could have done it, as many other fighters proved. You can't hide behind the mgmt excuse when you are the one that chooses your mgmt.
But if he had been fighting in the states against contenders like Grant, Botha and Tua did, then he wouldn't have been unknown. He was only unknown because he chose to fight for the WBOgus belt in Europe. And if he didn't chase Lewis even at 37, that's an even worst negative against him than if he had. From what I see in some other threads, he's chasing Lennox even now! That's pathetic.
So, how does him taking on a much harder fight at short notice mean he is a cherrypicker then?? You're fighting a losing battle here mate. Vitali does not have a strong resume, that's fair enough. But he isn't a cherrypicker, not by any understanding of the word.
You are correct sir. Neither Klitchko is a cherrypicker.....No matter who they fight though they will always be considered such...its just the way of the boxing world...... You've done well grasshopper:yep :good
If that cut had never happened, that would have been the fight of the year. I'm a fan of both and would not of cared who won, it just would have been a great fight.
try reasoning with the poster and you will see that this thread has about as much integrity and substance as a vacum!!! and(this part applies to anyone with common sense a grounding in reality and those post- kindergarden!)it would be reasonable to suggest we are well advised to go the complete opposite to any statement you make seen as you are clearly a lemming.
He cherrypicked Lennox Lewis and Sam Peter, both WBC Champions? Roy Jones Junior is the cherry picker.
