Mayweather Sr: "Cotto Can Still Beat Margarito"

i totally agree with Floyd Sr. I dont understand how people think Margo is a great boxer. Thank God for that chin he has b/c if he didnt dude would get KO'd damn near in every fight with the shots he takes.
Depending on who he is fightin he is very entertaining, but as far as being a hell of a boxer. I dont see it, IM with May on this one

Yep, Mayweather Sr. was saying some of these very same things about Margarito before the first fight. I have to admit, he does sound pretty stupid to me repeating the same dumb **** about Margarito not being a "scientific" fighter.. Reality is much more complicated than that - and alot more simple.

You would think that Mayweather Sr. would wise up after getting categorically owned like that.. It's sad that you have all these people in the media, fans - and specifically boxing industry people themselves that didn't understand, and continue to not understand, common logic. You can know boxing and focus really heavily there - but know the basics of simple fighting as well. Rocket science it ain't..

I think Cotto should hook up with Mayweather snr. Cotto is a real good student, very serious when it comes to preparation for a bout. I think he would able to learn from Floyd snr. Miguel is only 27 & has time for improvement in abundance.

He can come back stronger, but I think a change in trainer is due! I don't see Cotto improving much more, if at all, under his uncle.

To a point. Sr is very prideful. even when he's wrong he won't flat out admit it. He chose Cotto over Marg and he was wrong. So he has to justify his prediction and try to convince others what casued his prediction to be inaccurate.

Floyd is right that Marg isn't a "Scientific" fighter. But that doesn't mean he can't fight a "Lick", as Floyd Sr so eloquently put it. Marg just isn't a pure boxer who uses much of a game plan.

Floyd is all about strategy and adaptation within the ring. so his world is different of the world Marg embodies. Sometimes being TOO scientific in the ring isn't a good thing.

Being too scientific can cause many "FIGHTERS" problems b/c it causes them to "THINK" rather than just react, as Marg does. Marg is a "reactive" type of fighter....he works off instinct.

With FLoyd Jr....he has a lot of natrual talent but since a very young age his mental format has been programmed to be a "Boxer" that thinks, strategizes and implements. It's gotten to the point where Floyd is almost instinctual....Or he has gotten to the point where it is instinct.

 

Cotto can beat Marg.....it's just not likely given the style. But Cotto by all means has the skill set to out box Marg. The problem is Cotto's pride doesn't allow him to stick to the boxing game plan....when Marg begins to touch Cotto it's like he's calling Cotto out and Miguel seems to HAVE to respond....which was his undoing in the first match. You don't BANG with Marg...you out box him or end up like Cotto.

 

You must have some FIRE!!! I didnt see anythin close to a complete domination until the later rounds. In the begining I saw a Boxing clinic and at the end I saw a mauling......the problem for cotto is the end result is all that matters.

 

I somewhat agree with Floyd Sr. but Cotto isn't the man to do it. He lacks the stamina, chin and ring IQ to get the job done over 12 rounds.

 

LOL....No one really thinks of Marg as a Great "BOXER"...they view him as a relentless and determened "FIGHTER". He's a figher who happens to box....Of course he has the fundementals that almost any fighter has, but in boxing there are so many layers and depth that to learn the sweet science it takes YEARS.....

Most mexican fighters who box are rugid and gritty...but they are hella determined and it you don't have heart and you can't "FIGHT" every once in a while just being a boxer won't take you to the upper echlon of the sport.

Floyd is a pure boxer but he can fight.....only when he absolutely has to....just so he can get back to boxing and dominating by outclassing his foes....Marg just out fights you and breaks your will....Both seem effective but the name of the game is Boxing and the sports very best have mostly been Boxers!
