    The funny thing is that most men mentioned here, i.e. Duran, Liston, Tyson, Vitali, etc, all flat-out quit during their careers. Even Foreman probably could've beaten the count against Ali (but would've lost anyhow).

    Guys like Carlos Monzon, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano seemed emotionless robots with as only goal to take you out, and never stopped going...

    Interesting point, and a good one... but guys who have an aura of violence ala Duran, Tyson, Liston generally get a larger reputation at large it seems to me. Facing an emotionless robot who is going to beat you like you're nothing more than a piece of meat is terrifying when you have to go into the ring against them, but the rest of the time those guys don't get the same aura of menace.

    Guys who can pull off viciousness and back it up for awhile will always have a different kind of fear, one more easily appreciated by fans and by any fighter that might have to face them, rather than just the guys who will be facing them.

    After all that: Duran, Liston, Dempsey, and Hagler would be my picks.
