Contact lenses in amateur boxing

I wear contacts in amateur fights and sparring. I've had them knocked out during sparring but its rare. Even so, you still have one good eye. The chances that you'll lose both are even more rare...I've never had that happen. As far as laser surger, don't do it. I believe your not allowed to fight in USA boxing with Lasix surgery. So wait until your done.

Why the hell would they not allow you to fight once you've had LASIK? That doesn't make any sense.:huh

 

Believe or not laser surgery makes your eye thinner and makes it possible for it to bust if hit right. I do not think boxing would want people's eyes busting after taking a hook.

 

I imagine its due to having surgery on your lense...maybe your prone to have a higher chance of damage if hit? That's what I was told from some trainers at the gym. I might be wrong?

Wow that blows. I'm planning to get the surgery in a few years. But this is only for the pros right?

 

I had lasik done. The onyl downside is the ur not allowed to spar for 3 to 6 months depending on what ype of lasik u get. If u get all laser its 3 months, the blade takes longer to heal. Huge difference.

 

Oh ok so its just a matter of a few months. By blade, do you mean the keratome ( I think that's how it's spelled)? I thought all LASIK required it.

i actually had a contace fall out today when i was doing pads with my coach. i got a hard hook to side of my eye and it popped out

 

yeah thats a problem i have too. i wear contacts but i usually just take them out when training. its a pain though as the eyesight is really bad and i feel disorientated. but its better for sparring becuase when they are in i am too weary about being hit in the eyes. it's a pain. what does everybody else do?

 

I take mine out. They're too much of a pain otherwise.

 

Actually which one was it? doing pad work or sparring and got hit with a hook or none?

Unless you are not able to see at all without the contacts, which in that case you really should not be boxing, why would you need the contacts, considering that the opponent will be very close to you and in your face?

 

I leave them in. If one gets knocked out so be it. I have another eye. I've never had both knocked out.
