I thought the fight was up for grabs heading into the final round. Lou Duva, Meldrick Taylor's cornerman did as well, as he told Meldrick before he came out for the final round, "we need this here round!" d52, I dont know if you watched the HBO version, but how did you feel with their call of the fight? They'd have us believe Taylor was pitching a shutout!:-( Agreed though my friend, Chavez-Taylor was one of the better fights of all-time. It just had everything.....every single facet of the game factored in it.....skill, speed, quickness, strenghth, power, stamina, strategy, toughness, heart, will, and the list goes on....... A true "SUPER FIGHT!"
Totally agreed. I can't blame Steele for stopping it, but if I was in his shoes I might have let him continue, having got to that point of the fight (seconds remaining). Still, I think if that fight happened nowdays, the bout would have been stopped long before the 12th round on doctor's advice. Taylor took MUCH punishment.
Agreed with everything here... Yea their call of the fight was ****ing crazy ... Lederman didnt even give Chavez a round up until 10 or 11 i think... I mean i had Taylor ahead also but by 2 points ... Chavez was being very effective in there winning rounds... Through 9 it was def not a shut out as they had it... And yeah DE LA HOYA MAYWEATHER TAKE NOTICE OF WHAT A TRUE SUPERFIGHT IS
Nothing with the stoppage i think u missed the point of the post... If Chavez wasnt in the corner Steele should have stopped and made him go there and time probably would have ran out... i tink thats what Thread Stealer was trying to say anyways?
Never stood why people complained about the stoppage. The ref clearly asked Taylor if he was fine twice and he didnt say anything. Why should he let the fight goe on if Taylor had no idea what was going on around him? Great stoppage imo.
Then the ref, as instructed, should tell Chavez to go back to the corner. I've seen numerous fights when the ref tells the other guy to go to the corner like he should. That would take some seconds, seconds that could've been vital in this situation, as the fight might end.
I had it 7-3-1 for Taylor going into the 12th. Rounds 1, 3-8 for Taylor Rounds 2, 9, 11 for Chavez Round 10 Even (great round BTW)
Then you didn't saw the beating Taylor WAS GETTING in the FIGHT? And if you knew or didn't know M Tarlor was Never the same Taylor in ALL Chavez ruin that kid bad man if you can see IN THAT FIGHT ALL THE DAMGE HE TOOK FROM JCC strong Body and head shot's like i said ruin him HOW CAN YOU SAY NO?????????????:-(
The thing that people at home watching it dont realize, was the savagery that Richard Steele was witnessing up close and personal.......imagine the grunts and noises coming from Taylor's being, as Chavez landed heavy to the body, and repeated straight rights landing hard and flush, square on Taylor's face. Steele knew that it was Chavez that was landing with heavier artillery, and the more effective shots. On legendary nights Steele said, "Chavez was landing shots to break bones!" Right after the fight Steele's was cool as ice and never contradicted himself in any of his explanation of his decision to stop the fight......in fact, he alluded to the fact that Taylor had taken heavy punishment throughout the fight, and that he had seen enough.
Taylor was still a good fighter afterwards. Not quite the same after Chavez, but he looked fine the following year at 147 when he won a title against Davis. Similar to Vargas, it was just too many tough fights and too much punishment in a short period of time (I'm sure Taylor was a veteran of Philly gym wars too), with Chavez/Trinidad being the man fights that speed up their decline. Hopefully, Vargas won't suffer the health problems that Taylor has.
Hell yeah man.But JCC could have been outside or N coner exct that's has nothing to do with the fight been STOPPED.:good
