You have some legitimate points, and luckily for you, I'm one who think Roy has a very legitimate chance as well...

But please do it yourself: turn your good arguments upside down, look at it from Calzaghe's perspective. How Jones will deal with the simply most energetic, busy and bar far the fastest fighter he's ever fought? Old or not, that's something new for him. Also Joe is the slickest since Toney, giving a lot of angles, able to take away key weapons and adapt quickly. Hopkins did knocked him down, but 10 minutes later, he couldn't find the room for the right hand anymore. Joe also stunned Kessler, made Hopkins grab for dear life in the later rounds and knocked down Lacy for the first time in his career... as much as I agree with you, both fighters perspective should give the correct perspective of a fight...

Which is of course to see Roy's still available weapons 80% refuse to deal with, so yes, he's got a legitimate chance.

 

The thing is Roy's style has changed a fair bit (with his now high gaurd - legs going) and is pretty regular nowadays to what it was.

Yes, Jones' style is well suited to beat Joe.

However, and unfortunately some will think... Joe's style is well-suited to beat anyone. Really. I cannot think of a style that Joe's style would not work against. At least Roy can pay back the fun because his style is also well-suited to beat Joe. Usually Joe has all the advantages because he has this unique speedy punchy slappy-style and as a south-paw on top of it. The opponents style is almost always way more conventional in some way or another.

 

back in the 90's and early 2000's it would have, but the jones that likes to lay on the ropes will not get the job done.joe will slap him silly literally :blurp

 

Jones style is not well suited to beating Joe Calzaghe anymore, infact its awful from a defensive viewpoint.

He does not circle the jab like Hopkins. Calzaghe's jab will therefore work which is important for him.

His footwork and movement is restricted now due to stamina issues, so he'll just cover up in a defensive shell. This gives Calzaghe ample time to throw a lot of punches and outwork him and tire him quickly. This will get more and more frequent as the fight progresses, and Jones comes back with less and less.

Jones has not knocked anybody out for SIX years. How anybody thinks he's suddenly going to KO Calzaghe is a mystery. He could not knock out Prince somebody, a welterweight or the rookie Hanshaw who got his ass whooped by Dirrell to put that into perspective.

Unless he comes in with a miraculous, and I mean a gigantic improvement on what we've seen in the last few years, he is gonna get whooped badly and I don't see anything but fleeting moments of success with the right counter.

 

i think jones will go for broke in this fight, i think he will try ti win.he knows what joe does best and he knows how the judges are.so he will have to fight his ass off.i cant wait to watch the 24/7 between these 2 guys.anyways jones did not look that great against tito, but i think this fight will motivate jones more then ever and the hopkins win over pavlik ! man i hope its not to much pressure on him, but hes been under pressure before.i hope he has one more in him left, well 2 for the rematch against hopkins!
