No-one's asking you to actually get on a plane and go to the fights. But the fact that you think that your lack of awareness of someone who had been operating at such a level is a reason for pride is laughable.

You have a TV don't you? And an internet connection?

Lots of Americans spend their whole careers fighting in their own backyards, but I still know about them. I saw people like Kelly Pavlik and Jermaine Taylor on British TV (getting up at 3am) before they got to championship level.

If you couldn't be arsed to find out about Joe Calzaghe and find a way to watch championship fights against the likes of Eubank, Reid, Sheika, Woodhall, Brewer, Mitchell (hey, look, some of those are even American) then it says more about you than it says about Calzaghe.

I certainly won't miss the endless drivel from Calzaghe's myopic fanbase.

For them everything in boxing revolves around the object of their adoration. They even plague threads about other fighters with their obsession. They start thinly veiled threads off topic of Calzaghe only to spin their worship further. All they talk about is Calzaghe. Their whole world revolves around him.

And to think I actually used to like the guy. Boy those days are long gone.

Many PAv fans have started these Calzaghe threads...not surprised. Cal can lose all of his respect if he loses. I'm picking Jones to win because I'm a Jones fan, so Cal has to win. The reason why I said Jones would find it harder to beat Cal than Hop beat PAv is because Cal has a chin, is taller and body punches. Jones is now a "against the ropes" fighter. I am hoping Jones can use his great counter punching ability to perfection and turn back the clock. He doesn't have to worry abotu big power, but he does have to worry about Cal's sick work rate. I can see it now if Cal loses, he was never that good. The funny thing is, the same will be said about Jones. Fans will judge the winner as if they were in their primes when they fought. Neither Jones or Cal can win no matter who ever wins lol...Pav fans lol. Only if PAv won eh...lol

He's a highly talented fighter, but I won't miss him.

From the fan perspective, I really don't care. I respect him a lot, but I don't like or dislike him. His retirement will mean little to me personally.

That was not my point. The point is two polarizing undefeated fighters have their ridiculous worshippers and ridiculous critics. There are many out there who take more satisfaction when somone they dispise loses, than when somone that they like wins. Every time a guy like Calz. gets into the ring many boxing fans watch him fight in hopes that he will lose and hope even more that he gets ktfo. In their perverse way, they will miss Calzaghe.

Actually I believe this thread's starter is far from a Pavlik fan. What could Pavlik fans gain by diminishing Joe anyway?

This is purely a "let's all give both men credit and respect for their carrers" thread imo.
