In the end Pavlik will be a bigger star then Hopkins

Look how many stars America had then... who has America got now? Pavlik and Dawson, of course Pavliks going to be a star, he was the great hope, now theres only Dawson left.

 

I hope they do give Dawson the hype, the man deserves it and has the tools to back it up.

You are right that some young guys need to rise to the ocasion, I doubt Pavlic will do it though. Pavlic was arrogant going into the Hopkins fight, thats why I was rooting for Hopkins so much. If he wasn't so arrogant he could of performed better. If he learned a lesson in humility he might prove me wrong. But only he can do that.

How is Hopkins killing boxing?, if anything he can bring one of the biggest fights in boxing next year by fighting either RJJ in a rematch or Calzaghe, the RJJ rematch would be HUGE. How is that killing boxing?

The way Pavlik fought like a walking heavybag is what kills boxing, what Hopkins did is what a master boxer would do even at 43. Don't like it?, UFC is available, boxing is better without fans like you.

 

Pavlik got rolled. It wouldn't have been nearly so bad except for the "we're going to KO Hopkins" presumption coming from Youngstown.

Kelly will be back, and he has a chance to be a bigger star than Hopkins, I agree. But ease up on the bitterness or you'll end up sounding like Edison Miranda bootlickers after the Pavlik fight.

The Pavlik vs. Hopkins fight was a joke with no impact of Pavlik's future, re:

I've been a lurker on this site and enjoy reading all the comments. I respect divergent opinions. Nevetheless, I admit I'm confused about today's state of boxing vs. years ago. Case in point is the recent Pavlik vs. Hopkins fight.

First, I believe Pavlik was outboxed by Hopkins. But, what did Pavlik lose ? A perfect record, which few fighters achieve. He did not fight for his middleweight belt or a title fight. He did put lots of money in his bank account, and at 4 to 1 odds, if I was a betting man, I may have betted against myself.

Second, these catchweight fights are similar to wrestling matches. Here, Pavlik moves up two weight classes from middleweight to Lt Heavy weight for a non-title fight ? He never fought at that weight before, I think ? What happened to tune up fights and fighting up through the ranks in a certain weight class ?

Third, if Hopkins was fighting for the middleweight belt, I think the Pavik performance factor may have been different.

Fourth, De La Hoya was stopped by Hopkins, yet the naysayers have little problem paying to see him fight PacMan or other ridiculous bouts that again are non-title fights. And, no one says De La Hoya was exposed or a bum when he had to stop fighting due to a body shot by Hopkins.

Finally, these professional fighters are at such a higher level that it is not beyond reason to make these fights sparring matches or a day at the gym for them. They can hedge on output, hold back on knockouts, and do just about anything to let you think it was a true fight. It is snake oil and smoke and mirrors with suckers paying to see these stupid fights.

So, this fight sustains Hopkins as an aging fighter who can fight Jones or Calzaghe (sic) again for more money. It sustains these guys for a few more years. If they were such greats why not fight for the middleweight belt or a championship bout ?

I can see no gain for Pavik for taking this fight other than a big pay day and being assured of future fights by the match makers.

I also think that Pavik will be back and clean up the middle weight division. He is young, hits hard, and needs a few adjustments.

Maybe but that is not what boxing is about. Boxing is about proving yourself against the best and beating them not about beeing a star. It´s a sport not a show.

 

Stop posting the same garbage on every thread.

1.If you agree with Vincent(who thinks Kelly is an ATG and Hop a myth) your a complete donkey whos opinion is irrelevant.

2. Hes fought at/around 170 4 times, not including Taylor II

3. Bhop,Calzaghe and RJJ have a combined age of 119 and more championship belts than you have brain cells, if they only want Big Money Fights now who are we to argue.

Your boy got taken to school, get over it and look forward to big fights for him at MW(where he can at least try and be competitive)

 

The bottom line is Pav got his arse handed to him in a very public way, and it doesnt matter if he was ill coz in his last fight before Hop he had a Lockett so he should have been fine.:yep
