Pavlik praised Hopkins and so did Loew immediately after the fight. You must only hear what you want to hear.
No he was arrogant and that is why he lost.First to knock out hopkins, give me a break he gave no respect.
Those statements were made by the media. Kelly stated that he trained to go the whole 12 rds, and if a KO happened, it happened. Kelly made mention to KOing B-Hop at the weigh-in. The conversation went like this: Hopkins, "I've been in f'in prison for 12 years". Pavlik, "I'm going to send you f'in back". Hopkins then mumbled something. Pavlik, "I'm going to f'in knock you out in 8". A mele then broke out between both the teams.
"And it's not that he's that good. For crying out loud he lost to Jermain Taylor, twice. I beat Jermain Taylor twice, I beat him by decision and I knocked him out. It has nothing to do with his athleticism or his craftiness. Jermain Taylor hit him at will. Calzaghe hit him at will. It's just that I didn't have anything." So Pavlik didn't say any of this? These quotes just came out of nowhere?
According to Kelly Pavlik it was neither Hopkins or Pavlik as too why he lost. Kelly stated it was'nt him out there. Uh, ok who was it? Then he said Hopkins was'nt why he couldn't win. Uh, ok who kept you from winning if it was'nt Hopkins or yourself Mr. Pavlik? Perhaps it was... a ghost? A spirit came in the ring and kept you from winning. ****in bull****. Man up.
The Pavlik vs. Hopkins fight was a joke with no impact of Pavlik's future, re: I've been a lurker on this site and enjoy reading all the comments. I respect divergent opinions. Nevetheless, I admit I'm confused about today's state of boxing vs. years ago. Case in point is the recent Pavlik vs. Hopkins fight. First, I believe Pavlik was outboxed by Hopkins. But, what did Pavlik lose ? A perfect record, which few fighters achieve. He did not fight for his middleweight belt or a title fight. He did put lots of money in his bank account, and at 4 to 1 odds, if I was a betting man, I may have betted against myself. Second, these catchweight fights are similar to wrestling matches. Here, Pavlik moves up two weight classes from middleweight to Lt Heavy weight for a non-title fight ? He never fought at that weight before, I think ? What happened to tune up fights and fighting up through the ranks in a certain weight class ? Third, if Hopkins was fighting for the middleweight belt, I think the Pavik performance factor may have been different. Fourth, De La Hoya was stopped by Hopkins, yet the naysayers have little problem paying to see him fight PacMan or other ridiculous bouts that again are non-title fights. And, no one says De La Hoya was exposed or a bum when he had to stop fighting due to a body shot by Hopkins. Finally, these professional fighters are at such a higher level that it is not beyond reason to make these fights sparring matches or a day at the gym for them. They can hedge on output, hold back on knockouts, and do just about anything to let you think it was a true fight. It is snake oil and smoke and mirrors with suckers paying to see these stupid fights. So, this fight sustains Hopkins as an aging fighter who can fight Jones or Calzaghe (sic) again for more money. It sustains these guys for a few more years. If they were such greats why not fight for the middleweight belt or a championship bout ? I can see no gain for Pavik for taking this fight other than a big pay day and being assured of future fights by the match makers. I also think that Pavik will be back and clean up the middle weight division. He is young, hits hard, and needs a few adjustments. These are solely my own personal opinions. Cheers, KMcD
I dunno about the comments here but after seeing the first three rounds of this fight I knew something was wrong with Pavlik. He's never been a "slick" boxer, that's a given, but he just wasn't there that night at all. To be honest I was getting that "it's a fixed fight" feeling. I believe the line was 4-1. Nice pay day for those in the know. JET
Everyone there thinks that Pavlik would lose to Hopkins even if he's 100% & some are questioning whether he was even sick. WTF!!!??? Didn't you hear that cough he let out during the post fight interview in the ring? I swear, I said to myself, what the hell was that? A cough like that should only come from a smoker of many years. Not an athlete like Kelly. So I believe he was sick, his arms prob did feel like they weighed 100 lbs each, & at this point in time, whether or not he could beat Hopkins when he's 100% is debatable. I'm putting this fight behind me. KP will bounce back with a vengence & his only redemption will be to beat the **** out of Abraham in 2009.
His pre fight comments were "It has nothing to do with his athleticism or his craftiness. Jermain Taylor hit him at will. Calzaghe hit him at will. It's just that I didn't have anything."???:huh He spoke about not having anything in a fight that was yet to happen?
