Toney v Steve Collins? Toney doesn't have a punch to his name that would put Collins down. Collins would stay in there and just bang away. He would take away Toney's will (like Tiberi) and, barring bad judging, walking away with the V.
P. Falk you need to submit yourself for drug testing. Toney destroys Steve Collins. You have lost your mind. See Toney vs Barkley
Steve Collins was probably just as good as Nigel Benn or Eubanks, if not better. Toney'd still beat him. If he'd come in there and just bang away, like you said, he'd play right into Toneys hands and make it easy for Toney. Out of these three Eubanks would be the most competitive against Toney. Nigel Benn's style is taylor-made for Toney. I'd favour Toney against any of them.
Boys, it's not a matter of who's on who's level. This isn't Eubank > Collins.... Toney > Eubank.... therefore. Stylistically you're ****ing fooling yourselves. McCallum couldn't put Collins down, you honestly think Toney will? Collins would stay on Toney all night. ****ing noname Tiberi did that and broke Toney's will. Jirov was doing that all night until he got dropped. Because he's much more stationary than Collins would have been. No, this isn't a cake walk for Toney.
Collins also beat an out of sorts psychologically down Benn, but Collins was a good fighter, and he could have ceratinly forced his game upon Toney, as you say, he was a busy little bee, and Toney wouldn't have liked that one bit, on the other hand, nor would RJJ.
Very difficult fight for Toney. Collins had a ridiculous workrate & stamina, iron chin & was a strong ****er. Toney nuthuggers haven't a clue. Same old baseless garbage in every thread; "prime Toney was on another level" "prime Toney destroys him" "perfect style for Toney" "Toney counters him to death"
Someone like James Toney is a classic example of the flaws of fantasy match-ups. It is easy to always look at someone's strengths, or imagine them at their best, but we can occasionally see that people are vulnerable. Toney was majestic at his best but then sometimes prone to bad form. Which is hard to account for. I wouldn't pick Collins to beat him. But I like to use Toney to illustrate this point.
Collins is nowhere near Benn or Eubank's level. Take the factors of Eubank's career and then watch his fights with Collins; he lets him off the hook, more than once! I think Benn had just seen better days. Good wins, but not Elite level wins. James Toney K.O's Collins around the 10th round. God knows why Collins harboured for a Roy Jones fight so much (except from money of course) that would've been a worse beatdown than Roy vs. Pazienza. And if he could take Toney's punches all night long, why did he get knocked spark out by Howard Eastman in sparring?
Nope. But they were wins over guys that were not at their peak. Watch the 2nd fight with Eubank.....Eubank gives Collins space. See if Eubank gives Benn any space when he hurts him in the 8th round of their first fight. Eubank was reluctant to pull the trigger in later fights, and that is a FACT. He has said it himself. Benn was psychologically past it, but physically still tough. Too right they are decent wins for Collins, but he doesn't have a McClellan on his record that you can say...Wow! Watson and Eubank both have Benn as decent wins, and whilst Watson was outclassed by McCallum, I'd say H2H you'd have to favour Watson (vs. Collins I mean)
