Well said. But wasn't Kessler left with next to no help from his coach? I think so. I'm not convinced that Olsen (coach's name?) is any good at creating tactics.

 

i gave Kessler rounds 2, 4, 7, 12

one of my favorite fights of 2007. Maybe even my favorite.

 

Kessler will come back stronger, he ahs the physical tools but lacked the mental ones & Joe has helped him there, the loss did him good.

Kssler I find is very underated. the man has an amazingly fast & accurate jab with a tremendous piston-like right; he will go far its just some people here have never seen him box so discredit him without even watching him fight where his talents are clearly obvious.

Kessler will reign in the 168 division when he eventaully gets through fighting stiff along with Taylor. Bute & so forth may hold belts but ultimately it'll be these two & Froch who are the top men. Why Froch also? because he bangs - hard! - and constantly comes forwards with a good chin & that's a dangerous combination - just ask Miguel Cotto.

Kessler being a robot without the ability to alter his game is a tough but dull and stupid myth.

almost everybody thought, before the match that calzaghe would win by going on the inside, that if calzaghe succedeed to get inside he would win for sure. That if Kessler could keep him at bay he would win.
Now we all know what happened, kessler was winning on the inside calzaghe switched his gameplan and won it outside nullifying Kesslers jab.

Now, think about this perspective. This was actually kessler first elite fight, why blame him for thinking "if I can win inside I will take it, im stronger from outside - hell, be honest everybody thought soo.

What if the guy learned a lesson, could that make him stronger, the common thinking on this site is: If a boxer loses hes crap - in fact he was always crap:nut

Good sportsmen are actually characterized by having the abylity to gain knowledge from their defeat.

In tennis noboby expects Murray to defeat Federer in their first match -
of course sometimes it is obvious that a fighter just doesnt posses the right tools to deal an elite fighter.

The whole point is: Kessler had the tools he was just outsmarted, because he was thinking the same as every other bright head - dont call him stupid for that.

Kessler is an interesting fighter, one who cannot be labelled yet. I will surely be watching next time he goes a level up, interesting questions will be answered!

Great learning experience or Kessler.

 

Round 1:
Neither fighter is doing something wild. Kessler lands 3 significant punches - Joe lands 2. Joe is controlling round one a bit more.
This round is a draw!

Round 2:
Both fighters staying at distance and Kessler is successfull in landing the jab. Calzaghe lands 2 good punches. Kessler lands 3. Kessler has more control than Joe this round.
This is Kesslers round!

Round 3:
Calzaghe is really letting his hands go now. Controlling the fight and making Kessler back up. Calzaghe lands 5 punches. Kessler 1.
A very clear round for Calzaghe!

Round 4:
Joe starts the round pretty well but gets hit with a nasty uppercut. Joe backs alot in this round but counters pretty well. Kessler lands 5 significant punches. Joe lands 2.
A very clear round for Kessler.

Round 5:
Almost a repition of the first round. Both fighters have immense respect for eachother, although much looser. Kessler lands 3 significant punches. Joe lands 1.
This is Kesslers round but its a close one.

Round 6:
This is where the fight changes for real. Joe starts to use his fast jab and it actually pays of. Joe is outjabbing Kessler who is very, very passive in this round. Calzaghe lands two significant punches in this round. Kessler lands zero!
Easily Calzaghes round!

Round 7:
Both fighters go for it but Kessler is in control and lands the more significant shots. Kessler is still measuring but he manages to land a combo. Kessler lands 3 good punches. Joe lands 2.
An even round, but Kessler is in control. Kesslers round.

Round 8:
Calzaghe is dominating the centre of the ring, letting his hands go and he is backing Kessler up. Joe starts to land punches from weird angles and showboating a bit.
Joe lands 6 good punches. Kessler lands 1.
Joe is dominant and wins the round very clear!

Round 9:
Same procedure as in round 8. Joe is dominant and really showing how good a fighter he really is. Outjabbing Kessler at times and throwing from weird angles. Kessler clearly doesnt know what to do and seems very tired. Joe lands 6 good punches. Kessler 2.
Easily Joes round! Dominant!

Round 10:
Calzaghes workrate is showing. Joe is unreal - he is throwing a hell of alot of punches but wins this primarily on workrate. Joe lands 4 significant punches. Kessler 2.

Round 11:
Calzaghe outclassing, outjabbing and outworking Kessler who seems very tired and confused. Calzaghe lands 4 good punches - Kessler is passive and lands zero punches!

Round 12:
Calzaghe starts with nice inside work but Kessler's pressure is doing damage to Joe. Kessler lands 6 good punches but Joe is a warrior. Joe lands 3 punches.

This fight should have been scored 115-114 in favour of Calzaghe.

Calzaghe landed in total 36 significant (hurting) punches.
Kessler landed in total 30 significant (hurting) punches.

I know that this score is very different to both the judges verdict but also how fight fans on esb generally have scored this fight. But watch the tapes dude's!!! I am scoring this as it should.

I would like to add that that often the number of punches THROWN is actually more important than the ACTUAL number of punches LANDED!


I know that some of you have scored the fight 9-3 for Calzaghe and some even 11-1. WTF??


Calzaghe won this fight on workrate and with being adaptive and spoiling Kesslers gameplan. Calzaghe showed tremendous boxing brains and some of the best in/out movement Ive seen, from round 6 and on.


If you have Joe winning by more than 3 rounds - go watch the ****in' tape!!!

 

I'll tell you what happened there mate, Kessler went for it in glorious fashion and joe Was'nt willing to let him just do that and tried to match him all the way, Joes just got a total warriors mentality. But your right about Kessler unlocking it earlier. If he'd have done that in the 7 th or so and Joe tried to go with him, if Kessler could keep it up and maybe catch Joe heavy 5-6 times in a row he could have had him.

 

Astola I think you need to learn how to score...when the majority of the boxing fans out there, the officials, the media and various professional bodies are all in agreement with scores awarded then you really shouldn't go tell people to 'go watch the ****ing tape' - it makes you look silly.

joe did win by more than 3 rounds but that doesn't mean the rounds themselves weren't close.
