I don't even give those fighters much credence if they're holding the belt hostage. All Wladimir can do is make himself available to fight. If the other guys don't want to oblige him than their WBA championship becomes nothing more than a meaningless trinket. Let those guys fight on some Erdei or Dzinzruk cards or something and let the real champions take care of business. If Valuev doesn't want to step up then Wladimir can play Apollo Creed for a day and give some underdog like Bidenko a crack at the belt. People would come down on Wladimir for the choice of opponent but who else is out there when your main targets won't play ball? Maybe Juan Carlos Gomez would take the fight.

The timing of the injury is very fortuitous for the Khryunov and the whole Povetkin camp.

There was supposed to be a press conference on Monday.

Since Khryunov never signed the contract to fight Klitschko (citing uncertain size of the ring among his issues with current contract), the expectation was for him to either sign it before the press conference or give a solid explanation for his reasons not to...

Sucks for Povs, who had a pretty decent opportunity to make a name for himself with a nice performance.

Sucks for Wlad because now he'll fight a potentially dangerous fight against a last minute fill in and will get no credit if he wins.

As for a replacement? Hasim Rahman? James Toney?

Another Euro fighter pulling out of a major fight, what a surprise. The fight wasn't appealing anyway.

Povetikin was not ready to fight Wlad. This is good for him.
It is bad for Wlad, because he will probably end up fighting some bum.

    Here's IBF rankings:

    Champ-Wlad
    1. Povetkin

    3. Dimitrenko
    4. Rahman
    5. Ibragimov
    6. Maskaev
    7. Arreola
    8. Chambers
    9. Golota
    10. Toney
    11. Meehan
    12. Sam
    13. Thompson
    14. Walker
    15. Cameron

    And his other title:

    1. Dimitrenko
    2. Povetkin
    3. Haye
    4. Arreola
    5. Walker
    6. Barrett
    7. Chapman

    10. Virchis
    11. Minto

Be nice to see him fight Valuev though and get the WBA belt.

Right. I mean cmon he's got 16 pro fights. How they expect him to stand up to Vlad? Povetkin shows he's smarter than his management in tripping over that root, imo.

It took him seven attempts, but he was finally able to trip heavily enough over it to tear a ligament.
