mayweather pad drill

    Hi everyone.
    I just checked out some clip on youtube on how Mayweather or Gamboa uses the pads, Is there anyone who has done it this way, what is the secret behind it, do they do 3 punches and then bob and weave or is everything practiced for a long time so they really know exactly what will come?
    I would like to try it.

    Yeah, it's a set routine... how do you think Mayweather can look away when he is doing it... He's good, but not that good :p

    I never understood this. It just does not seem like the mot effective way to use your time when training for boxing. I guess it helps with speed, but I'd think there are better ways then remembering all of the choreography.

    On the other hand, he must be doing something right, as he's won lots of fights and titles.

    I think what it is mate is that years and years ago they probably came up with like a 50 punch combo and obviously at the time Mayweather would have struggled to do it / done it slowly. Obviously he would have eventually learnt it and mastered it and then they probably move onto the next one. It is probably 2/3 50 punch combo's that mayweather mastered over the year put together.

    very long punch combos seem usless in a fight but they are actually good if you break them down...its just helping your body to memmorize the motions i guess?

    But Mayweather always throws one punch at a time anyways...

    To me it seems like the trainer does most of the job, so i've wondered what's the benefit in this pad drill, except for hand-eye -coordination and rhythm ?

    Probably a very good aerobic excercise for conditioning, builds stamina, endurance, etc.

    pad drill is one of the most essential aspect of a training routine that makes a good fighter.. it helps with every single conceptthat you need to bring in the ring come fight night.. it helps with stamnia, power, speed ndd accuracy . try it sometime for like a good month 3-4 times a week .. youll see the results

    Exactly when your running the same routine day in and day out you perfect it, thats the case here, it does help a fighter get into the swing of throwing good short quick combonations while moving his head as well, its a good routine, effective if you ask me, but again its Choreograhed meaning sooner or later in the fight someone will pick up on how you move your head, and that fighter will catch you were your head is going to be and not where it is.
