It's certainly my favorite heavyweight fight. When I saw the first fight on dvd two years ago I thought it was very good and couldn't wait to see the second one.I was utterly mesmerized the first time I saw Bowe-Golota 2

It only produced more "excitement" if the electricity of the crowd, the magnitude of the event, and the popularity of the fighters makes it way more exciting.

Because other fights that I mentioned were much better fights. But I guess some people may have been more excited during Holyfield-Tyson I since it featured the sport's biggest star, and was for a heavyweight title.

Nah. It should be a combination of both. Otherwise every year the FOTY would be 2 unknown amateurs slugging it out. Tyson-Holyfield's mainstream appeal overshadowed the better fight of Barrera-McKinney. I think The Ring was right in their choice.

i think your smoking some ****. Barrera vs Mckinney was so good, and didn't involve 2 unknown amateurs it involved one of the best p4p fighters in the sport at the time, Barrera, and Mckinney a gold medalist. The action was unbelievable and never let up for 12 rounds, and would be a worthy winner for FOTY during any year in the history of the sport. There, I said it. Mckinney vs Barrera is THAT good.

But 1996 didn't have great fights between "two unknown amateurs".

Bowe and Golota were two of the best heavyweights in the world and their rematch was amazing.

Barrera was an undefeated p4p fighter, and McKinney was a former champ and top contender.

Liles was a world title holder and Littles a top rated contender.

    Kelley and Gainer were contenders.

Gatti was a world title holder.

It's not as if Holyfield-Tyson I was some great fight that was really close to being one of the best action fights of the year.

It wasn't even a top 5 action fight of 1996!

I mean more entertaining fights. The other three had far more consistent action than Holyfield-Tyson 1.
