i remember being on these boards years ago and asking for advice when i first started. ill tell you one thing, a gym can be an intimidating place. The second you walk through the door your in a whole different world. youll feel as though your in a movie watching gladiators train for battle. its loud, its rhythmic as with the tapping of the jump rope. big bangs othe heavy bag, little burst like thuds from the speed bag. the coaches instructions being yelled out to his or her fighter.

you may get the chance to see two people sparring in the ring which is always fun to watch for the first time.

its fun, good luck. im starting to get back into it myself so i look forward to seeing how you progress. good luck buddy.

I remember that as well. The people in the ring were like super humans to me at that time, getting hit in the face and not even flinching!

yea it was crazy when i first started. i would shut my eyes whenever someone punched at me and what not. but before boxing i used to read up so much on it, i studied it like an obsession. everyday nothing but boxing on my mind. so i learned what the greats did to condition themselves and tried imitating. it was fun, i wanna go back to that. its crazy to think about your first time ever stepping into boxing. i remember my first trainer and ****. still the trainer i think about when boxing, always remembering that to him, the jab should be out 90 percent of the time.

boxing is addicting so be ready newbie.

Do it son! Life is too short. Eventually you wake up, and you're old and haven't done what you want to do.

Join a gym, and reach for your dreams.

Ha, that post kinda hit me. You guys are right, I shouldn't worry about what my dad says, and life is too short. If I want to scrap, then thats what I should do. Hopefully I'll stick to these forums, because you all seem to know what's up and will be able to help me out. Hopefully I'll go to my first boxing gym sometime this week, as of now though, I'm gonna start training.

Your dad just said that because he dosen't want you to box.

    Don't listen to him.

Do what YOU want to do.

Hey guys... Sorry to bring this topic back up again, but now my dad is telling me that I can't box. It's bull****, I really want to, but he keeps telling me about all the health problems involved. Sure I understand all about that, but like... He's not even giving me a chance to try. I am considering about doing it behind his back, but I dunno if that'd work. How would I explain injuries/etc. Thanks again :/

What health problems? Could you direct your father to this board, perhaps he's willing to debate those health problems he speaks of. He's probably worried, but he can be assured there's no brain damage in the amateurs. The worst that can happen is breaking your nose or coming home with a shiner.

    Just Do It.

you shouldn't have any injuries in the first few months... at that point, you can probably show him the positives of boxing. but he'll be pissed.

always ask for forgiveness, not for permission

get a mate to break your nose then tell your dad your you got attacked then break down and cry and tell him that if only he let you go boxing that would never of happened because you would of known how to fight off the dirty criminals who did that to you! plus if your nose is already broken before starting boxing it wont happen whilst boxing so its all good!
PS: maybe a black eye would do...a broken nose is a bit extreme but you catch my drift...

if i was you tell your dad your doing it to get fit. my parents hate me boxing but they wont stop me as im good at it, and your dad will realise that you can box and you will be safe in the ring.
