Well...I was picking Kessler to win in that fight and it really impressed me how Calzaghe was capable of putting Kessler off his game in that fight. I still believe Kessler just had an off night and he's very capable of beating Joe behind a sharp and active jab which I feel is P4P one of the best in the business !
I agree that this fight is kinda pointless now. But the closer it gets the more interested I'm becoming. I want Jones to win and do think he will have successes early. It's not Joes boxing skills or even activity that bothers me, its his awkwardness and unpredictability. I believe thats why Hopkins gassed. If a fighter is active but predictable, you can settle into a groove against them with your breathing and movement because you can anticipate whats coming. But Joe isn't that guy. He is awkward and not repetitive, comes from different angles and rythms. I think Roy is gonna gas out, or his legs are gonna give out and then he's gonna be a sitting duck. I HOPE I'M WRONG, but from recent performances I don't see Roy holding up the entire 12 rounds. I do think there will be moments in the fight where he makes Joe look downright silly though, because I think his skills are a couple steps above Joes.
I can totally see Jones timing Joe as he jumps in with one of his ******ed slappy combinations and putting him down though.
I agree. i don't think it will take long for Roy to figure out Joe and when he does Joe will be countered at will
Calzaghe does square up more than most lefties, though, and he seems to be very hittable with right hands. The fact that Calzaghe can't punch (anymore) might also give Roy some needed confidence back, too. To answer the thread itself, I see Roy winning 7 rounds.
I just don't think he'll be busy enough. I think he'll be looking more to evade and survive than land the kind of flurries Calzaghe can. So, assuming it goes the distance...I don't reckon more than 2.
