People are overlooking some very big issues...

    (1) Calzaghe can easily be countered, ESPECIALLY by someone with equal or greater punching power.

    (2) Calzaghe can be dropped with one punch (as evident by Hopkins). It doesn't mean he has a weak chin, but it means he can get hit flush, be off-balance, etc.

    (3) Calzaghe only has real speed in his punches now when he SLAPS. When he loads up for a power punch, it's significantly slower...

RJJ has power in both hands, speed in both hands, can counterpunch and lead, is masterful at drawing people off-balance, still has fast enough legs to leave Calzaghe chasing him, etc.

Also, part of the reason Hopkins lost to Calzaghe was that he wasn't exciting the judges. Hopkins is boring, landed the more effective punches, but didn't throw enough, and rarely made Calzaghe look foolish.

Because of RJJ's style, speed, and cockiness, he has the ability to embarrass Calzaghe and steal some of the closer rounds that Hopkins would never be given...

That, in it of itself, could be the difference...

all that seems to what if`s in my opinion, but Calzaghe will know all about Jones and like he always does, prepare himself to fight against whatever Jones has left. He has never been beaten for a reason.

Because just 2 years ago he was fighting Peter Manfredo? and right before that Sakio Bika? :huh Is that the reason?

I plan to revist these threads in the same manner I revisted the Pavlik threads especially those who picked him by KO ..So after Jones pulls off the upset I will ask those who felt he was old n ot worthy and shot is he still now !!

i think Jones is very worthy of a shot and thats why calzaghe has wanted him for his last fight, theres nothing else to prove after this one.
and i believe it will be proven by Kessler dominating at least for the next few years.

No butthead. Roy was beginning a second career at that point. Before he faded into obscurity he made a successful run at the Heavyweight title and already had wins over two future Hall of famers. Joe had just gotten the biggest win of his career and he followed it up against a guy who lost to Alfonso Gomez and Sergio Mora twice :deal

He has never been beaten, because he didn't fight any legends anywhere near they're peak...

He isn't better than RJJ, because RJJ has losses...He's not better than Hopkins or Toney...He's not better than Hagler, than Monzon, than Duran, and so on...

I'm tired of this undefeated garbage. He fought one 43 year old legend (Hopkins), one top notch fighter about to retire (Eubank), one overrated American bum (Lacy), and another undefeated fighter who padded his record as bad as Calzaghe did (Kessler).

Through a career spanning 15 years, with 45 professional fights, his resume consists of defending a WBO Super Middleweight Title against undeniably soft competition...

Calzaghe isn't undefeated because of his preparation, he's undefeated because of his competition.

He'll retire without EVER fighting a HOFer, True World Champion, or ATG ANYWHERE NEAR HIS PRIME. Find me one ATG fighter who can make a similar claim.

Calzaghe is a good fighter. Calzaghe is a champion. But the reason Calzaghe doesn't get credit from people like me the way he does from people like you, is that I look at the whole picture.

People always say that De La Hoya, Mosley, Hopkins, etc. have lost BIG fights...They also TOOK big fights. They fought the best available, and they ran up and down divisions to chase the best.

Calzaghe ran up his undefeated records, hid in a soft division, avoided real competition, and is now cashing on the Hopkins/RJJ name recognition...

I heard Roy actually threw away the 2nd and 3rd Tarver fights, and the Glen fight just to make Calzaghe overconfident and think he can easily beat Roy, but when the fight comes Roy will be like the old Roy and Joe will be in trouble!

Excuses. Jones was fighting complete bums just 2 years ago. We shall see how Roy does against a non handpicked opponent. The last one he fought brutally knocked him out once and then decisioned him in 2 out of 3 fights.

Roy Jones is way past his prime. Calzaghe SPENT HIS PRIME fighting bums...from Eubank in 1997 to Lacy in 2006, there was nobody of any use on his resume.

See my post above for further analysis...:deal
