`correction` Calzaghe will never get the recognition he deserves, because there will always be excuses coming from people who think they know better,
i bet the likes of hopkins, kessler, lacy and soon jones will know exactly how good he is.

Thanks, and don't get me wrong, I like Calzaghe.

I think he's a good person outside the ring, he's not a dirty fighter, he's got good skill, and he certainly seems to work his ass off.

However, facts are facts. He's incredibly overrated by a lot of people, especially when comparing him to other fighters in or near his weight class from the same era...

Wow...that was a very deep analysis of Calzaghe's skillset and resume.

Care to elaborate, or are we using 5 year old logic now?

Maybe Calzaghe just knows exactly how old Hopkins was, how untested Kessler was, how overrated Lacy was, and soon will know how shot RJJ is...

Mike McCallum, Virgil Hill, Montell Griffin, Reggie Johnson, Clinton Woods, Merqui Sosa vs ???

And in that time, RJJ won the Super Middleweight and EVERY Light Heavyweight belt...

How many World Champions did Calzaghe fight between Eubank and Lacy???

    Give me a break...That's a joke.

that is exactly what i`m getting at,
everyone will have there own opinion, and all fighters will have doubters
    especially on forums like this!
it didnt need to be a deep analysis, its just as it is.
its why we love boxing and also why its so frustrating at times, theres never a winner!!!

they were nothing but trinket belt holders. How many linear, unified, or undisputed Champions has Roy beat in his career?

Woods is a joke so is Sosa and Johnson.

    McCallum was old as hell.

Woods held the IBF Light Heavyweight Belt after he fought RJJ, and RJJ was the only person to ever stop him (and he did so in 6 rounds).

He knocked Virgil Hill out in 4 rounds with a single body shot. Hill has held the WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight titles, as well as the WBA Cruiserweight Belt, making him a 2-Division Champion.

McCallum was old, but Calzaghe's biggest win pre-2006 was fighting an about to retire Eubank. That's essentially a wash.

Reggie Johnson had the IBF Light Heavyweight Title belt when he fought RJJ, and also was the former WBA Middleweight Champion.

I know that their resumes weren't outstanding, but CALZAGHE was fighting Mario Veit, and other unknown garbagemen... At least these guys were ranked highly while Jones was fighting them. They were legit contenders, champions, and good fighters.

RJJ also beat both Hopkins and Toney in THEIR YOUTH, won titles at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, and Heavyweight weight classes.

WHO DID CALZAGHE FIGHT BETWEEN 1997 (Eubank) and 2006 (Lacy)????

    HE FOUGHT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ONE:hi:

Nice post, but don't expect these Calzaghe nuthugger to change their bias way a thinking. Even if Calzaghe himself rapes them they would still absolutely love him.

Woods has always been a joke he came to the States and was embarrassed by Tarver.

Roy has never beat a fighter at the time that they fought who was:

    linear champion

    unified champion

    undisputed champion

Roy HANDPICKED John Ruiz. Toney also moved up and beat him. Big deal.

Whatever happened to Roy winning the WBO title at Light Heavyweight?

When you handpick fights and jump divisions like Roy has it is not hard to win titles in multiple divisions plenty of fighters have done it over the years before Roy even turned Pro.

He was knocked out silly by Tarver and the light punching Glen Johnson.

I am not a Calzaghe fan but he has not been knocked cold twice by two guys that are not power punchers.

Roy avoided fights in every weight class he fought in. At least Calzaghe cleaned out a Division.

give me a ****ing break roy has faced WAY better competetion than joe...its not even close...the guys people have named who roy fought in the 90's who people are calling "trinket" belt holders, more than a few of them would have knocked joe through the ropes

I am not a Calzaghe fan. He cleaned out a whole division fighting everyone in it. He beat Hopkins who would KO Roy if they fought now.

Jones jumped divisions to avoid fights and handpicked fights in every division he went to.

Roy's whole career is based on fighting a green Hopkins and James Toney.

I give him full credit for the Toney win but both fights were two of the most boring I have ever seen.

Roy beating Ruiz means nothing. Ruiz was a paper belt holder and handpicked. Fitzsimmons beat THE Heavyweight champion at the time. Roy would have been KTFO by Lennox Lewis who was THE Heavyweight champion not Ruiz.

    :hi:
