People want to see more of Kessler. That seems to be a fact around these shores (ESB). I believe Kessler-Hopkins would be a great match-up for both parties. This thread is supposed to be an attempt at summing up good reasons why we should have this fight and why we should push for it.:good

    1) Hopkins is most likely not going to get a rematch with Calzaghe, however, beating the man soundly that probably gave Calzaghe his toughest fight would make a statement.

    2) Although Kessler has the physical age advantage Hopkins might have one or two tactical tricks up his sleeves that can potentially confuse Kessler. We saw in the Calzaghe-Kessler fight that Kessler had problems adjusting two tactical changes.

    3) Kessler is not bringing anything to the table that Hopkins hasn't seen before. While Bhop might consider it a high-risk fight he should be able to gauge exactly what he is up against.

    4) Both fighters have good punch power which should make for many spectacular exchanges of punches, translating into great entertainment value.

    5) Kessler brings IMO superior handspeed and is no turtle either. He should be able to score solid points with fast combinations. Hopkins footwork is not at the level of Calzaghes which should allow Kessler to land some of his beautiful straight right-on-target power punches.

    6) Kessler is at a point where he needs to fight big names if he wants to establish himself among the big stars. No more Sartisons and Hausslers.

    ....Feel free to add more...

I'd rather see Kessler stay at 169lb and dominate fighting Bute, Taylor, Inkin, Froch etc. There's to much moving around in weight for the money fights at the moment. Let's not forget Hopkins looked great against Pavlik BUT pavlik turned up static, essentially a puching bag. Hopkins looked his age against Calzaghe, his spoiling was atrocious. I think he'd be the same with Kessler. Personally i don't want this fight, Hopkins should hang' em up on the back of this good win.

Whoever wins that will face Froch/Pascal winner - THEN we can have the winner of that fight face Kessler! If Froch wins both and Kessler beats a big name before than it could be a huge fight in Wembley stadium! OK, maybe Froch coudn't even fill Wembley if he faced ODLH...

Plus, I hate all this division jumping and 'catch weight' crap that goes on these days. Pick a division and clean it out, then move up, maybe.

I don't really think Kessler has done enough to warrent a shot yet, he can try cleaning out 168 a bit more first. There would be more interest and hype in a Dawson fight. There is no reason, besides if you're a Kessler fan, to see this fight over Dawson, IMO. There isn't enough in it for Hopkins anyway.

    So do I.

I have no interest in seeing Hopkins-Kessler. It's pointless.

There are THREE worthwhile fights for Hopkins.

    Calzaghe, Jones, and MAYBE Dawson.

The obvious logical opponent for Hopkins is the winner of Jones-Calzaghe.

You're saying Kessler gave Calzaghe a tougher fight than Hopkins did?

Hopkins' footwork is a level above Calzaghe's

this should not be in doubt

I see another close match, but Kessler would beat Hop the same way Taylor did imo.

Yes I am! Definitely. I say that because I didn't see the best of Calzaghe in the Hopkins fight. Did you? Calzaghe delivered a top performance against Kessler and was still in trouble at times. Against Hopkins he was just okay and still won.

I don't think Hopkins would want to fight Kessler anyway. There's more money in rematches, and a chance to even the score, with the Jones/Calzaghe winner.
