Is Oscar an ATG

He's better than JCC in my opinion

 

He is a first ballot Hall of Famer. All time great, that is debatabe.

To me, he is not quite on the level of jones, toney and Hopkins ...

 

Duran only coasted the last round in the first Leonard fight. And only the last minute of that round IMO.

 

I think Oscar is a great fighter, but a fighter who did not fight great. Undoubtly a superstar, the biggest non heavy weight boxerar of alltime, constinently called the Sugar Ray Leonard of his day, and while there careers paralled each other in terms of popularity, Leonard seems to have some intangible that though just barely separates himself from Oscar. with Leonard being an alltime great, while Oscar a great fighter rest beneath the status of alltime great, I could never see Leonard jumping out to a lead controlling the fight for nine rounds, and then running the last three rounds as Oscar ddi against Tito. I always saw Oscar as more busines man than warrior. Maybe he needed some of that machismo that almost all latino boxers have that makes them the true warriors they are known for being.

 

Alot of people are jealous of Oscar De La Hoya due to the fact he is and always was the 'Golden Boy'. Beautiful Wife, 6 weight 11 time World Champion biggest earner in the history of the sport more pay per view buys than any other fighter in the sports history. De La Hoya was born into Boxing from his father and his grandfather before him were both pros. He received alot of criticism from being on the canvas in alot of bouts early in his career but always showed the heart to get up and win. He also brought alot to Boxing with his promotional company.

- Beating Chavez by stoppage in 1996 cutting him with 1 single jab within a minute into the fight and then continuing to embarrass the people Champion for 4 whole rounds hitting him with everything bar the kitchen sink out boxing him and hitting him with heavy shots.

- Beating the then current P4P Champ Perrnel Whitaker in 97

- Robbed of greatness against undefeated power puncher Felix Trinidad who was a one dimensional fighter who came forward and was known for his left hook. Oscar took Trinidad to school for 9 whole rounds out boxing and outfighting Felix Trinidad and then started to box and move for a further two more rounds.

- losing to Shane Mosley one was in my eyes his first fair loss. In the rematch however was very close with Oscar losing a close Decision.

- Starting off from a Super Featherweight fighter at the start of his career to moving up the challenge the greatest and most dominant Middleweight in history Bernard Hopkins. Ahead in the first 9 rounds on 2 of the judges scorecards De La Hoya was caught and knocked out for the first time in his career by a Bernard Hopkins left hook to the body.

The term ATG is thrown around on this website too liberally these days.

Also, people put too much into all of the trinket belts that are out there today. Winning a belt in 6 divisions does not mean **** unless you beat THE Champion for that division to get it.

The fighters of the past did not have the luxury of winning a belt and then calling themselves "Champion". You had to beat THE only champion that was out there because there was just one.

DLH has lost just about all of his big fights and is a very good fighter.

 

Yes, he's won world titles at 6 weight divisions and has fought the elite and succeeded well against the elite, Oscar is Elite and an ATG.

Define ATG.

If it means one of the 100 or so greatest fighters of all-time (a massive achievement considering boxing's history), then yes, he is an ATG, without question IMO.

 

He should certainly be ranked in the top 100 fighters ever.
